Football: Players excited about Haywood
By Pete Conrad
A handful of Miami University football players were in attendance when Mike Haywood was introduced to the local media as the new head coach this afternoon at Miami’s Voice of America Learning Center.
Here is their reaction after hearing Haywood speak:
“I’m excited,” cornerback Jeff Thompson said. “I can’t wait to get back to school now. He seems like a guy who’s willing to put in the work and make us the best team we can be.”
“I have all the confidence in the world (in Haywood) just by looking at his resume and by watching his last bowl game in Hawaii,” said wide receiver Dustin Woods, referring to Notre Dame’s 49-21 victory over Hawaii on Dec. 24 in the Hawaii Bowl. “I had to see for myself. When I saw those two deep passes to the wide receivers, I got really excited.”
Free safety Jordan Gafford was a bit more reserved, saying the players have “great trust” in Director of Athletics Brad Bates and Miami President Dr. David Hodge. “Initially our confidence is high,” Gafford said, “and coach Haywood seems excited about bringing change.”
