Yes, beer has its own special day, it’s April 7th - although if you want to celebrate like they did back in 1933, you better get in line tonight at midnight.

As prohibition wound down and the Cullen-Harrison Act was enacted, beer lovers queued up at their favorite watering holes on New Beers Eve (April 6th, 1933) to celebrate with a low-alcohol beer (3.2% alcohol or lower) after a 13-year dry spell. By the mid-April, some 20 states and the District of Columbia sold enough beer in one day to generate an estimated $7.5 million in tax revenue - that’s about $131,344,039 in 2012 dollars.

Today, the Dayton area is fortunate to have a number great beer bars! If you’re looking to celebrate Beer’s special day here are a couple of links to help you plan.

The first ever live episode of “Drink ‘n’ Think: The Game Show in a Bar!” will be filmed at Milano’s on Brown Street Wednesday night.

Host Henrique Couto, a local musician who has also worked in local access TV, said the game is highly interactive and not your average bar trivia night.

Would-be contestants who think they have what it takes should show up at 9 p.m. ready to be noticed.

“The more ridiculous the better,” Couto said of suggested attire to get picked for the show. “I have high expectations for people wanting to get noticed.”

Players who are picked will compete in the general knowledge trivia competition for gift cards and other fabulous prizes.

Cuoto said winners will also get big time bragging rights, “and the lamentations of all the people you find attractive at the bar,” he said.

The show will definitely appear as an online webisode and could eventually be broadcast on DATV.

Bar-goers need to be prepared to drink up and close their tabs a bit early Saturday night/Sunday morning.

Daylight Saving Time starts at 2 a.m., Sunday, March 11. That means that clocks get set forward one hour to 3 a.m.

Since Ohio bars cannot serve alcohol past 2:30 a.m., last call will have to take place before 2 a.m.

So drink up, tip your bartenders, and check the batteries in your smoke detectors.

For those that just cannot wait for March Madness or St. Patrick’s Day, a totally random invented holiday is yours for the celebrating Wednesday.

For those that do not wish to be surrounded by hundreds of drunk college kids with mysterious blue-tinged mouths, this is your official warning.

March 7 marks the fifth annual Blue Beer Day at the University of Dayton.

Wait… is not there a Green Beer Day celebrated in Oxford, Ohio by Miami students every year since the 1950s? Yes there is. But in Dayton, the beer is dyed BLUE instead of GREEN. Note the difference.

Blue Beer Day will be celebrated at the usual locations of Buffalo Wild Wings and Milano’s on Brown Street.

DaytonRocks.com DJ’s will be spinning at both bars and both will be serving up blue beer and blue Jello shots.

Milano’s will open at 7 a.m. and will serve a breakfast menu.

More information is available at the official web site http://www.bluebeerday.com/.

<![CDATA[(This story is running in Friday’s Active Dayton, but here’s the info early in case you want to check out Remixx Lounge during their soft opening this weekend. Nancy will be hosting karaoke Thursday night. If you go, let us know what you think!)

DAYTON — A new bar opening downtown this week hopes to offer signature martinis and diverse entertainment to a mature audience.

Owner Jesse Patterson said Remixx Lounge, 146 E. Third St., is opening its doors this weekend, with an official ribbon cutting and grand opening planned for Thursday, Feb. 23.

The upscale lounge has been a labor of love for Patterson for more than six years.

He worked previously for Buffalo Wild Wings and has done promotions for the Dayton Funny Bone and the Schuster Performing Arts Center, always dreaming of running his own venue.

“I’ve always been inspired to have my own place,” said the Central State University graduate. “I’ve watched a lot of clubs that were successful and those that weren’t.”

Housed in a former adult novelty store, Remixx will (also) cater to adults. It’s 25 and up only.

Patterson said he hopes the lounge will be a place where adults can enjoy a drink and some entertainment without the crowded club atmosphere.

“The baby boomers, the older people that we’re trying to attract, they don’t want a club,” he said.

Remixx’s specialty will be signature martinis, which Patterson said he hopes to test out during a preview event and have local people help name.

Full details on the grand opening are not yet available, but Mayor Gary Leitzell has confirmed an official ribbon cutting to take place at 5 p.m. on Feb. 23.

Remixx will be open Wednesday through Sunday. A tentative schedule includes a Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack Happy Hour on Wednesdays, karaoke with Nancy Sell on Thursdays, jazz on Fridays and an ’80s and ’90s Remixx on Saturdays.

Patterson said he’s open to suggestions from the community for more events.

“I want to make this space universal and I want it to be diverse,” he said.

Remixx Lounge’s hours will be 4 p.m. to midnight Wednesdays and Thursdays; 4 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Fridays; 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Saturdays; and 6 p.m. to midnight Sundays.

There will be no cover charge, except possibly on nights with live music.

Contact the bar at remixxdayton.com or (937) 228-MIXX.
