Remixx Lounge opening downtown this weekend

(This story is running in Friday’s Active Dayton, but here’s the info early in case you want to check out Remixx Lounge during their soft opening this weekend. Nancy will be hosting karaoke Thursday night. If you go, let us know what you think!)

DAYTON — A new bar opening downtown this week hopes to offer signature martinis and diverse entertainment to a mature audience.

Owner Jesse Patterson said Remixx Lounge, 146 E. Third St., is opening its doors this weekend, with an official ribbon cutting and grand opening planned for Thursday, Feb. 23.

The upscale lounge has been a labor of love for Patterson for more than six years.

He worked previously for Buffalo Wild Wings and has done promotions for the Dayton Funny Bone and the Schuster Performing Arts Center, always dreaming of running his own venue.

“I’ve always been inspired to have my own place,” said the Central State University graduate. “I’ve watched a lot of clubs that were successful and those that weren’t.”

Housed in a former adult novelty store, Remixx will (also) cater to adults. It’s 25 and up only.

Patterson said he hopes the lounge will be a place where adults can enjoy a drink and some entertainment without the crowded club atmosphere.

“The baby boomers, the older people that we’re trying to attract, they don’t want a club,” he said.

Remixx’s specialty will be signature martinis, which Patterson said he hopes to test out during a preview event and have local people help name.

Full details on the grand opening are not yet available, but Mayor Gary Leitzell has confirmed an official ribbon cutting to take place at 5 p.m. on Feb. 23.

Remixx will be open Wednesday through Sunday. A tentative schedule includes a Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack Happy Hour on Wednesdays, karaoke with Nancy Sell on Thursdays, jazz on Fridays and an ’80s and ’90s Remixx on Saturdays.

Patterson said he’s open to suggestions from the community for more events.

“I want to make this space universal and I want it to be diverse,” he said.

Remixx Lounge’s hours will be 4 p.m. to midnight Wednesdays and Thursdays; 4 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Fridays; 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Saturdays; and 6 p.m. to midnight Sundays.

There will be no cover charge, except possibly on nights with live music.

Isn’t this a similar business plan as Club Vault, which just recently opened on Jefferson? Did the 88 Club ever make it? Is that place even still open? Where do these business owners think the “high brow” crowd is going to come from? The suburbs? HA!! Wasting money and energy trying these concepts downtown - Vault has been empty and my guess is that it will close within 6 months. Do you folks not do any market research before these ventures? The streets of downtown are ghostly after 5… now we have carbon copy businesses vying for the same handful of tragically hip folks.

That’s not necessarily true. Have you been downtown on Dragons game nights, City Folk, Urban Nights, and the host of other festivals at Riverscape or Dave Hall Plaza? There are a ton of people downtown. People want places to go and as long as there are safe places to go eat and have a drink, people will come. That’s why Therapy Cafe, Sidebar, Mr. Hymans, and Delish are doing so well. Before you write, do your own research! Vault is a huge club for young folks - totally different concept.

I think this is a great concept and I can’t wait for Dayton to have a place where I can enjoy myself with different types of people in a safe atmosphere!

I’m well aware of the crowds on Urban Nights, City Folk Festival, and Dragons games. Ask the 88 Club how much business they got from the Dragons games! It hurt their business. Those games are a self contained evening of entertainment—people come for the game and go home afterwards, and most of them are from the suburbs. Urban Nights ends up being a bunch of folks walking around, but not necessarily spending any money, and there are so many FREE things going on, what’s the incentive for anyone to go into a bar, let alone one that is off the beaten path? SideBar is successful because it inherited the best location in the Oregon District, and catered to a more diverse crowd than had been there previously. They decimated the eclectic live music in the process, however, and they ran off the equally eclectic clientele. Therapy Cafe is a niche place, and not often very busy. I’m not sure I would qualify that as a success. And do YOUR research - VAULT is trying to do a Swing Jazz/Dance night on Thursdays which sounds eerily similar to what you propose to do on Wednesdays… and they are falling flat with it. I’m just saying, we have many folks downtown trying to do the same business model, competing for a “vapor” demographic. Hopefully, you’ll have something different and special and be successful - good luck!

Good Luck Jessie on your venture. You have always been a hardworking man. You have dealt with some crazy people, but now its time to shine. I’ll stop in!
