Bar best bets for your last July weekend

The United Irish of Dayton Celtic Festival — a multiple Best of Dayton poll winner for the best festival in town — is happening all weekend at RiverScape MetroPark. The live music, dancing, beer and authentic food make for a sure best bet this weekend. But for those looking to take a break from the heat, check out these air-conditioned bar best bet options as well.

Date for a Cure

Although first dates can be awkward and um… awkward, Bar Louie at The Greene is hoping lots of Dayton singles will suck it up for an evening to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

They’re hosting a speed-dating event, Thursday, Aug. 4, to raise money for the charity. Each single gets a series of mini-dates, free appetizers and a chance at door prizes for $15.

If you’re already attached but want to help the cause, print out the event listing from Facebook (search for Date for a Cure or Bar Louie Beavercreek) and bring it to the restaurant Aug. 4. They’ll donate 15 percent of your purchase to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Bar Louie also hosts live music performances every Thursday night from 10 p.m. to close.

Mad Hatter beer Crawl

IPA fans will want to hit up the Oregon District this Saturday for a progressive tapping of New Holland Brewing Company’s Mad Hatter varieties in celebration of the 14th birthday of the IPA line.

Come for one tasting or try them all.

2 p.m., Rye Hatter at Thai 9, 11 Brown St.

3 p.m., Farmhouse Hatter at Blind Bobs, 430 E. Fifth St.

4 p.m., Oak Hatter at Lucky’s Taproom, 520 E. Fifth St.

5 p.m., Black Hatter at Trolley Stop, 530 E. Fifth St.

6 p.m., Imperial Hatter at South Park Tavern, 1301 Wayne Ave.

Pinup Pageant

Carmichael’s Pub is calling all vintage vixens to enter their Pinup Beauty Pageant this Saturday.

Contestants will be judged in three categories: vintage swimwear, Q&A and a talent shoot. Each contestant should bring a prop to pose with.

The top three ladies will win prizes.

When: Contestant registration starts at 6 p.m., pageant starts at 9 p.m., Saturday, July 30

The bite: $20 pageant entry fee, $5 cover charge for everyone else

Miss Pulse Dayton

Pulse Nightclub is giving away cash prizes to the hottest legs in Dayton this summer. If you’ve been working on that tan, show it off in your best short shorts every Friday during their “Daisy Dukes” contest.

Each week’s winner will get $50 and an invitation to the finals on Aug. 26 where Miss Pulse Dayton will win $500 cash. Each Friday’s runner-up gets $25 cash.

Judging is by crowd response so make sure to bring all your friends to cheer you on.
