Newest Oregon District club opens Friday
Pulse Nightclub will join the ranks of Oregon District night spots this Friday, March 11, with a grand opening party starting at 8 p.m.
If you want to be one of the first to check out the newly remodeled club, formerly home to Sloopy’s and briefly Bar Tiki, show up Friday ready to dance.
Doors open at 8 p.m. and admission is 21 and up only. There will be a $5 cover charge at the door. Drink specials opening night include $4 grape and cherry bombs, $2 Bud Selects, and the club’s signature cocktail the Pulsation — think along the lines of a “Wall” at Tim’s or a fishbowl at Adobe Gila’s, strong and sweet — for $4.
I got a sneak peek of the club, 613 E. Fifth St., and the place is practically unrecognizable — in a good way!
See for yourself in these sneak peek photos of the new interior.
Besides ripping out the square bar that took up most of the club space — the new bar runs along the front wall that faces Fifth Street — Pulse’s designers have removed the raised booths along the wall, expanded the dance floor, and created a ultra-modern interior that is pretty visually stunning.
Vicki Waker of Cabinet Creations Design Gallery and J. Stanton, president of Southpaw Creation and Design, were in charge of the club’s makeover. Stanton completed the interior design at SideBar, also in the Oregon District.
They’ve given Pulse’s lounge a face life that includes faux leather walls and couches and the bathrooms have been completely redone. The back room that used to house pool tables won’t be open for this weekend’s opening, but owner Randy Handler, who also owns George Newcom’s Tavern and Clancy’s Tavern, said it will eventually be some sort of a private party or VIP room.
Although the weather will be chilly, the patio will be open for smokers. Inside the DJ will be playing Top 40, dance hits, and a bit of R&B and hip hop.
If you go for the grand opening smile pretty for our ActiveDayton.com photographer and let us know what you think.
