Plunge bringing frozen swimming to the Greene
As you read this, a reminder that Saturday’s high temperature is expected to be 44 degrees with a possibility of snow showers in the evening. Enjoy!
The Greater Dayton Polar Bear Plunge, one of 11 plunges held statewide to benefit Special Olympics Ohio, is coming to the Greene this Saturday. They are setting up a large swimming pool across from Adobe Gilas and the party will continue inside the bar afterwards.
Those wishing to take the plunge are asked to raise a minimum of $75 to participate, $50 for students. All plungers will get free admission and food at the Post Plunge Party. Guests can watch the plunge for free and pay $10 admission to the afterparty. Last year, this event raised more than $8,000 for Special Olympics Ohio and the athletes in the Greater Dayton Area.
Where: Adobe Gilas, 78 Plum St., Beavercreek
When: Saturday, March 12. Registration and check-in begin at 10 a.m., opening ceremonies and costume contest begin at noon, and the plunge will start at 12:30 p.m.
The bite: $75 per person, $50 per student to take the plunge. $10 admission for non-plungers to the afterparty.

A more temperature-controlled option…
Therapy Cafe is searching for Dayton’s next Karaoke Star this spring, and the winner gets a prize package most “American Idol” contestants would envy.
They’ll hold opening rounds on Thursdays in March and April. The winners of each round will advance to the semi-finals in April. The finale will take place May 5 and will be judged by Ron DeVoe of New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe.
The winner will get to record a studio-produced single and music video which will premiere during a Friday night party at Therapy. First- and second-runners-up will receive cash prizes.
Where: Therapy Cafe, 452 E. Third St., Dayton
When: 9 p.m. every Thursday through May 5
The bite: There is a $10 entry fee to compete. Spectators will pay the normal Therapy Café cover charge, except during the semi-finals when there will be no cover charge.
