Graffiti Party

If you’re heading out to Therapy Cafe or the Oregon Historic District this Friday, stop by the former Wympee building at the corner of Third Street and Wayne Avenue to leave your mark on a Dayton landmark.

The new owner will open “Olive, An Urban Dive” later this year, and the inside of the former Wympee diner has been stripped in preparation. They are inviting the public to a Graffiti party from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Stop by and sign the walls before they put up new drywall, and you will forever be a part of the building’s history, which dates back to 1938.

The Wympee diner closed in October 2009 after more than 70 years of serving Daytonians, and new owner Kimberly Collett attributed much of her decision to open a new restaurant there to the fond memories expressed on Mark Fisher’s Taste blog entry: “After 70 years, Dayton restaurant calls it quits.” Read more about Collett’s plans in this Taste entry: Closed for a year, former Wympee restaurant springs to life. Sharpie markers will be provided for those joining the graffiti party.

Where: Olive, 416 E. Third St., Dayton

When: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18

The bite: Free
