A twist on the usual bar experience

Do the twist this weekend. Literally show off your dance moves for choreographer Shane Sparks or figuratively take advantage of a Thursday Twist deal that will save you some dough. Also head to a peace and lovefest at Trolley Stop, a “twist” on a Woodstock anniversary celebration. OK, that last one was a stretch. Forgive us.

Shane Sparks at Hammerjax

Choreographer and Cincinnati native Shane Sparks (“So You Think You Can Dance”; “America’s Best Dance Crew”) is giving a workshop and hosting a talent competition at Music Hall in Cincinnati on Saturday. The official after party is Sunday at Hammerjax. Show off your moves and maybe even learn some new ones.

Where: Hammerjax, 111 E. Fourth St., Dayton

When: 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9

The bite: $7 for ladies, $10 for guys

TrolleyStock at Trolley Stop

This year is the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, but you don’t have to travel to a field in New York to celebrate. Trolley Stop is hosting 10 hours of peace and music this Sunday to benefit the Dayton Peace Museum. Music from The Elderly Brothers, Eric Loy, Joe Anderl and others, plus comedy from Rob Haney and Bronwen the belly dancer. Wear your best Woodstock-era getup and compete in the ‘60s costume contest.

Where: Trolley Stop, 530 E. Fifth St., Dayton

When: Noon to 10 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 9

The bite: $10. Call (937) 461-1101 or visit www.trolleystopdayton.com for more info.

Two-fer Thursday Twist at Club 22 and Higgins Station

If you’re looking to stretch your dollar (seriously, who isn’t?), then Chaos Entertainment and NykeGRAFIX have a deal for you. Pay one cover and get into two clubs all night. Ladies also enjoy two for one drinks before 11 p.m. at Higgins Station, where it’s “Grown Folks Thursday” every week. It’s “Boss and Diva Thursdays” over at Club 22 with DJ Esko.

Where: Club 22, 2217 N. James H. McGee Blvd., Dayton, and Higgins Station, 420 E. Main St., Trotwood

When: Every Thursday

The bite: Call (937) 268-2764 or (937) 854-5616 for more information about the Thursday Twist deal.

Plus those twisted people we call the Party Crashers will be “crashing” Dayton’s Club Masque at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, followed by The 88Club at 11:30 p.m. for their “The Real” First Friday Party: The Red Party. Get more details at www.ActiveDayton.com/partycrashers
