Music, ‘Drama’ and a rockin’ benefit set this weekend

It’s a music-packed weekend on the Dayton bar scene. Rock, techno, beats, whatever you are into, you’ll probably find it at one of these best bets.

Juicy at c{space, Saturday, June 20

It’s time to rave this Saturday. The 5,000-square-foot warehouse that is c{space will be packed — with sound at least. Special guest Phantom 45 from Chicago will bring the Drums and Bass. He’ll be joined by techno queen Punisher from Detroit. Plus you won’t want to miss the six-turntable hip-hop throwdown featuring Dayton’s own Skratchmatik Crew, DJ Sparechange, Many Styles and much, much more. Seriously the list of artists who’ll be in attendance is huge.

Where: c{space, 20 S. Jefferson Ave., Dayton

When: 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., Saturday, June 20

The bite: $10 admission before 11 p.m., $15 after

Party with Drama at Atmosphere, Saturday, June 20

Drama will also be appearing at the Walker Auto Dealership in Miamisburg Saturday to help celebrate Go Skateboarding Day.

You’ve seen him on MTV’s “Rob and Big” and “Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory.” Now party with Rob’s cousin and longtime assistant Drama at Atmosphere. Maybe even challenge him to some beat boxing?

Where: Atmosphere Nightclub, 507 Miamisburg-Centerville Road, Centerville

When: 10 p.m. Saturday, June 20

The bite: 21 and older only, $5 cover before midnight. For more information, call (937) 416-9362.

Ladyfest Dayton benefit at Jimmie’s Cornerstone, Thursday, June 18

A twofer - enjoy some local music and help raise funds for the second annual Ladyfest arts and music festival. It’s an all-ages show at Jimmie’s Cornerstone featuring “the happy planets,” “He Laughs, He Learns, He Loves,” and “Trunk Bound Regime.”

Where: Jimmie’s Cornerstone Bar, 1001 Brown St., Dayton

When: 10 p.m. Thursday, June 18

The bite: $5

Saturday, June 20, 2009 Dayton, OH Fruit of the Boombox presents.. Juicy! Featuring.. Photobucket Phantom 45 Bass By The Pound//Drum & Bass//Chicago A Chicago native and drum n’ bass icon, Phantom 45 has been and continues to be the gateway through which many enter the world of Drum and Bass. Phantom has seen the world change and plays the rhythm of this transformation every weekend with his brand of smokin’ Jungle/Drum-n-Bass. Influenced by U.K. producers such as DJ Hype, Andy C. and the entire moving Shadow label, Phantom 45 began to forge a new way of presenting this musical movement in the U.S. as far back as 1991. His understanding of Breakbeats, House music and Rave culture increased his demand as a touring DJ. As he sees it he’s “just playing the tunes people need to hear” speaks volumes, for he spins what he feels - nothing more..nothing less. Photobucket Punisher HEJ Records/Prosthetic Pressings//Techno//Detroit Hailing from Detroit, Michelle Herrmann better know as just Punisher, is a petite techno veteran that packs a powerful punch. An observer and artist by nature, Michelle was drawn to music and the creative side of life since the beginning. She was fortunate to find her way into the Detroit techno scene in the early 90’s when the energy was awe inspiring, and from that moment, Punisher emerged. From her career’s onset in 1993 at only 15 years old, Michelle has set a precedent of raising the bar high, through flawless productions and dance floor igniting DJ and live PA sets. I apologize to everybody and DJs for the move and the short notice. I tried to work things out with c{space & the fire marshall and it ain’t gonna happen. We can try to do it there, but risk the event gettin shut down. It will be a cool spot once they work things out and get some sprinklers. The new venue is Jazz Central on E Third St, Dayton. I think it was a move for the better. It’s an old skool jazz club!! The main room holds 200+ and has a nice big stage. The second room is completely separated from the main room and has a full bar. Its a lil grimy tho, but that’s what we’re goin for Wink Things to remember.. It’s still $10 before 11!! It’s still ALL AGES!! Full bar for 21 and up!! (didn’t have that @ c{space) Still bringin our own sound, not using crappy house system. Thompson and Gabe holdin down the lighting tip. The headliners are paid for and ready to rock! (Phantom loves playin Dayton) The ONLY other thing different is we can only go till 3am not 4am. THIS VENUE WILL NOT GET SHUT DOWN!! It is a legitimate business that has been here for years and just recently started booking shows outside of jazz, mostly metal. There is limited capacity of 300 so arrive early to make sure you get in. And yes, I will be having someone @ c{space the night of with info and directions to the new venue. Call it a map point! Wink I’ll try and answer any questions and post pics and directions of the venue later. Also.. I decided to throw this event simply to get everybody together, see a good show, here some good music, and hang with some old and new friends..and that’s what I expect. I refuse to stress about this and I’m not going to. This show is pretty much paid for. Expect a good time with good people!! If you wanna come, great!! If not..then I guess don’t. Your missing out.. Yours Truly, Don Mega All yea..Time Sluts.. Main Room 9-10 Skratchmatik and Friends 10-11 Vinny Bricks 11-12 James Johnson 12-1 Phantom 45 1-2 Punisher 2-3 DJ Nostalgic Bar Room 9-10 Elton Mack 10-11 WWOD 11-12 Coco D 12-1 Dragonfly 1-2 Adam S 2-3 Vacate DJs-I’ll be hittin you guys up later with more info.
