Bell’s Brewery Beer Event Friday, Jan. 23

If you’re unfamiliar with the South Park Tavern on Wayne Ave. in Dayton, you should make a concerted effort to get to know it.

Since Aug. they have added a patio, a new bar, a new jukebox and have plans for a new draft beer cooler with space for 12 more taps in addition to the six the bar currently has. All of this in addition to a menu that features food from Dayton’s Original Pizza Factory — a Lounge Lizards favorite.

Already being fans of SPT, we took notice of an event scheduled there this Friday that we had to share … it wouldn’t be fair to keep it to ourselves afterall.

Owner Bill Daniels writes on the bar’s Web site:

Hello Fine Beer Lovers! The South Park Pizza Tavern proudly presents something VERY special for the beer connoisseur.

Friday, January 23rd starting about 8 p.m., we will be serving some of the best craft beers in the world from Bell’s Brewery On tap will be:

Bell’s HopSlam Ale: (one of their rarest beers brewed only in January and early Feb.)- “A biting, bitter, tongue bruiser of an ale. With a name like Hopslam, what did you expect?” Original Gravity: 1.087 Alc. by Vol.: 10.0% (ouch!)

Bell’s Third Coast Old Ale: “A barley wine with deep amber color. The brandy of ales, this beer has vintage character and will mature in the bottle at cellar temperature for years.” OG: 1.098 ABV: 10.2% (a big beer!)

Bell’s Two Hearted Ale: “India Pale Ale style well suited for Hemingway-esque trips to the Upper Peninsula. American malts and enormous hop additions give this beer a crisp finish and incredible floral hop aroma.” OG: 1.058 ABV:7.0%

Bell’s Amber Ale: “Our flagship beer is made from mostly pale malt with some Munich and caramel malts. This gives it a slightly sweet flavor that is balanced by a melange of American hops. The result is a deep copper color and rich flavor.” OG: 1.056 ABV: 5.8%

Bell’s Lager Beer: “As refreshingly crisp as a morning swim in a Great Lake, this brew is crafted with Pils and Munich malts. The pronounced hop character of this golden lager sparks thoughts of sandy beaches and rocky islands.” OG 1.05 ABV: 5.0%

AND…

Bourbon Barrel Aged Double Cream/Expedition Stout: Bell’s Brewery has conferred upon us a small keg of a VERY VERY special brew. It’s an “off the menu” version of their Special Double Cream Stout blended with their world famous Expedition Stout and aged in a bourbon barrel. I’ve been told there are only two of these small kegs in Ohio, and the other is going to a beer festival somewhere. Come early if you want to try this quite possibly once-in-a-lifetime beer. (OG: 1.075 ABV: 6.1% Cream Stout/ OG: 1.11 ABV: 10.5% Expedition Stout- but subject to change due to the blending and bourbon barrel aging!)

The 23rd promises to be a special evening at the South Park Pizza Tavern, and we hope you’ll stop in and join us. As A.E. Houseman so eloquently put it, “And malt does more than Milton can to justify God’s ways to man.”

Sounds like a winning event to us …

And there’s the excuse I need to try out this place. HopSlam is a feat of brew engineering and the Expedition Stout experiment sounds very tempting. (And intimidating!)
