Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

Today is the 38th annual celebration of the planet we call home, and a day to step back and think about things we can do to preserve and restore our natural resources…

So that’s the official line on Earth Day, but I want to know: what do YOU think about Earth Day?

Is it a time to reflect on accomplishments?

A time to call for more action?

Or something in-between?

Send a post, let us know, then go outside and do something good for the planet.

Flying men and motorcycles

You’ve probably seen Honda’s “Free yourself” TV commercial. It’s the one where the guy punches through his traffic-bound car’s roof, sprouts bright red wings and takes off, embodying the free spirit of the motorcycle shown in the final shot.

I saw the ad yesterday, and noticed the folks at Honda had made some changes. Whereas the original ad ended with no words, a narrator now says something along the lines of the following:

“Free yourself. From four doors. From four wheels. From gas at four bucks a gallon…”

Interesting sign of the times, isn’t it?

That change got me wondering about gas mileage. There has been lots of talk in the media lately about the fuel efficiency of scooters and small motorcycles, but what about the big cruisers or high-performance sport bikes? How much of a difference is there between an 80cc scooter and a 1,000cc cruiser?

Do you ride a bigger bike? What kind of real-world mileage to full-size motorcycles get? Is it a worthwhile alternative to a car?

Post a comment, and let us know if - like the commercial suggests - you’re less tied to the pump than four-wheeled commuters.
