Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

Today is the 38th annual celebration of the planet we call home, and a day to step back and think about things we can do to preserve and restore our natural resources…

So that’s the official line on Earth Day, but I want to know: what do YOU think about Earth Day?

Is it a time to reflect on accomplishments?

A time to call for more action?

Or something in-between?

Send a post, let us know, then go outside and do something good for the planet.

Things to appreciate

I didn’t ride my bike home from work yesterday. Likewise, I left the two wheels at home and drove in today.

Probably not surprising, though I did get teasingly asked about it by two coworkers (you know who you are).

Driving in the rain, after spending a significant part of my commuting time on a bike, changed my perspective on the car a little bit. For the first time, I really appreciated just how significant a feat it is to stay totally dry and climate-controlled in the midst of a humid downpour, all while going 45 mph.

Automobiles have been around just over a century, and have been weatherproof for only part of that time. If bike commuting does nothing else for me, it’s teaching me to appreciate little things I’d otherwise take for granted.

Like a dry interior and windshield wipers.
