Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

Today is the 38th annual celebration of the planet we call home, and a day to step back and think about things we can do to preserve and restore our natural resources…

So that’s the official line on Earth Day, but I want to know: what do YOU think about Earth Day?

Is it a time to reflect on accomplishments?

A time to call for more action?

Or something in-between?

Send a post, let us know, then go outside and do something good for the planet.

100-mile diets and home canning

So far this week, we’ve touched on local food producers, the plight of the pollinators and the fragility of the system that puts food on our tables.

My goal was to get folks to think about where their food is coming from. It’s a green issue, if you think about it; sucking up too many resources and putting out too much waste per person is a surefire way to wreck the system that feeds us.

It’s an expansive issue that touches a lot of topics: pollution, animal welfare, transportation. Four posts on a blog can’t really do it justice.

So I’ll come back to the subject, but until then, I found this website, which presents an interesting take on sustainable, local eating. Yeah, it’s a promo site for a book, but it has some good info, as well as a link to a very comprehensive site on home canning.

Dig in and stay tuned; I have something you don’t want to miss in Monday’s post.
