Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

Today is the 38th annual celebration of the planet we call home, and a day to step back and think about things we can do to preserve and restore our natural resources…

So that’s the official line on Earth Day, but I want to know: what do YOU think about Earth Day?

Is it a time to reflect on accomplishments?

A time to call for more action?

Or something in-between?

Send a post, let us know, then go outside and do something good for the planet.

New trail to be built in West Chester neighborhood

I received an interesting piece of information yesterday I thought you may appreciate.

This email came from West Chester Twp. trustee Lee Wong:

“Great news! Last night the Beckett Ridge HOA voted for the bike/hike trails linking from Beckett Ridge subdivision to Muhlhauser Barn and traffic circle/sidewalks at the intersection of Eagle Ridge Dr & Lakota West Dr linking to LWHS and Union Centre Blvd. Small things like hike/bike trails are important to our quality of life. Walking or biking are not polluting our environment and (are) good for our health. These trails are long overdue for West Chester!”

I haven’t seen the map for exactly where the trail will connect, but its location can’t hurt. For those who aren’t familiar with the Union Centre area, it’s somewhat cut off for most foot/bike traffic due to I-75, SR 747 and Tylersville Road. Residents outside that area have to cross or travel down sections of those roads to get there. By car, no big deal. On a bike at 4:30 on a weekday afternoon, not a pleasant option.

I wonder if this new trail will make it easier to hop from subdivision to subdivision, using trails and residential streets to get through the area.

If I can get a map of the trail, I’ll post it here. Until then, how do you get around bad traffic spots in your area? Is it even practical to get around the Cinci suburbs by bike or foot without braving heavily-trafficked roads?

Hooray for West Chester! This is the first big step in making our community a pedestrian friendly neighborhood. Hopefully there are more great projects like this yet to come that will enhance our quality of life.
