School boards to meet
Lebanon and Little Miami’s school boards will meet next week, with much to be discussed. Lebanon meets at 7 p.m., Monday, May 18, and the topic of Superintendent Mark North’s upcoming interview with Beavercreek schools is sure to come up. The board will also find out who the 16 teachers are who want to retire early. Little Miami will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, in its first meeting since the May 5 election when their levy failed. The board needs to come up with a plan for the district’s finances.

Mark North has never had his heart in his job in Lebanon. The politics of the district must be truly disheartening to him. The board president and her union husband run the district. Rest of the board is in it for what they can “reap” for themselves.By john

hey lucy, school is a big business. not just in the lebanon schools, but in the kings and little miami as well. the schools are the biggest full time employers in warren county. they just voted down a levy in little miami and now they are cutting jobs. most of those jobs are family members. check and see what some of those people make a year for only working 9 months. you are right, they are in it for what they can reap. see what they pay for health care, and their retirement. i wish i had it that bad. it is going to be fun to see what the little miami school district is going to cut next to make it hard on the parents. i know, cut the school lunches. make the parents pack lunches.By Lucy

Hey John, You are right, the taxpayers sacrifice a meal (or the latest item suggested by the levy committees) and soon we’ll be dumpster diving so the union can have the most expensive benefits money can buy. Little Miami residents cannot afford more taxes. Neither can the rest of us. It’s time to cut out the waste, raises and health insurance costs. Other business’ have had to cut way back on benefits. Why are the teachers so special. Now they are enjoying their summer off while the rest of us figure out how to pay the second half of our taxes.By Lucy

Lucy and John: Do you put any kind of value on the kids in the districts? What’s it worth to you to have highly educated professionals teaching or students to be successful and good productive citizens for the future. Sounds like you would rather our kids be taught in one room buildings with no indoor plumbing. Why don’t you get an education and get what it takes to be a teacher or would you rather just complain about it?By Mark S.

It doesn’t matter where you go to get the education being a small class room or a big one. Indoor plumbing has nothing to do with getting a good education. Just because people vote no doesn’t mean they are against children or schools. It may mean they don’t have the money to put into a levy. Oh, and if these people did make what a teacher makes, then maybe they would pay for the levy and vote yes. I would not mind making $60,000 or $90,000 a year for only 9 months of work. John is right, schools are a business. Get ready, they are coming at us again this Nov. for money. What will they do this time to make it hard on us parents? What kind of games will be played? What will they cut next? You see, this is what they do in big business.By julie c.

$60,000 to $90,000 a year for almost part time work (“working 9 months a year)? if they are going to playing games to get a levy passed and they do play the games (cutting bus service and making things hard on the parents), the schools should be the ones to “pay to play.” i for one cannot afford to play their games. not many of us can on what we make. the schools should have to cut back like most of the businesses are. the schools are not a magical place were the real world problems disappear once somebody enters the place. we owe it to the students to show them how real life is. cutting back on a few things is not a bad thing. most of us have done that, and so should the schools.By JEANNE

Julie C- Here is something you can think about-How come when a teacher or any other people who retires from the school system can come back to work for them at a higher pay then they were making when they retired. Thats what wrong with the schools. BUDGET,BUDGET and thats all we hear. Maybe the people should start doing there own reseach on is there a reason why this person is still working for the schools when you know they retired.
