Learning never stops
I like sports, so when I saw this blog about a 73-year-old man “playing” college basketball, I was intrigued. It turns out, the man, who is enrolled in classes at Roane State College and a member of their basketball team, failed a Spanish class and made in ineligible. He is attempting to play because he was kicked off his college team in 1956. The blogger pokes fun at Mink’s situation, and the plight of so many student-athletes who do not take their studies seriously. In reality, though, the lesson is, regardless of age, there still needs to be an emphasis on the “student” in student-athlete. Without making the grades, the sports will be taken away. And those sports will likely not last beyond high school for the overwhelming majority of students.

Little miami community group seeking members
Today, Feb. 18, I was able to sit down with the members of Little Miami’s CAST - Communities And Schools Together - who are working to build a positive and working relationship between the school district and the community. The group’s mission “is to build a sense of community and shared identity among the residents of our various townships and villages, centered around the school district we all share. Little Miami CAST strives to sponsor and support activities that will bring the community together with the purpose of connecting people and enriching the lives of all the residents of the Little Miami School District.” The group is also seeking general members and members for its board of directors. For information, contact them at littlemiamicast@gmail.com.

Little Miami moves graduation
Despite the extension of the school year due to winter weather, Little Miami High School’s graduation ceremony will still be held at 7 p.m., Friday, June 5. However, it will now be at Hi-Five Field. Parents are encouraged to be at the field by 6:45 p.m. The field is large enough to accommodate all graduation guests. In the event of inclement weather, the district will proceed with graduation inside.
Although the decision to return Commencement to Little Miami High School is an effort to reduce district costs, the district says it will also be a special location for this important farewell ceremony. Seniors will have one last chance to say good-bye to their alma mater as they receive their diplomas and start a new chapter in their lives.

Little Miami high school busing ends
Monday, Feb. 9, was the first day at Little Miami High School without district-provided busing to and from the school. Parents lined up all the way to U.S. 22/Ohio 3 to wait in line to pick students up. Have you been affected by the cuts? I want to hear from you. Read the Pulse-Journal on Thursday, Feb. 12, for more details on this story.
