Do students need more motivation?
Author and motivational speaker Bob Sullo recently worked with Little Miami administrators and teachers, who first read his book, Activating the Desire to Learn, which is about internal control psychology and student motivation. He also spoke to parents about raising children to be happy and responsible. Sullo believes the desire to learn is based on five personal needs - to survive and feel safe; to love and connect with others; to be powerful and develop competence; to make choices and feel free; and to have fun. He said schools that base programs and practices on meeting these needs have fewer disruptions and more students who are improving academically. Teachers, what do you do to motivate students? Parents, how do you get your kids going? Students, what motivates you and what makes you procrastinate?
