Improvements
Stepping away from union talks for a bit, I wanted to highlight some of the building improvements reported from this summer.
Business operations used previous facility assessments and the five-year capital improvement plan to identify emergency projects. Chris Passarge, business director, said they worked on projects that directly impacted teaching and learning environments, systems that would not make it through the next school year or items that required work to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
Time and resources also were taken into consideration.
Here is a list of completed projects:
Site Work Projects: Expansion of Shawnee’s parking lot Major repairs to the Service Center bus lot Installation of a wheelchair ramp at the Adena playground Repair and resurfacing of five tennis courts Improvements to several playgrounds Detention areas cleaned Repairs to sidewalks and parking lots at 12 buildings Mulched building entrances and cleaned up landscaping
Interior Work Projects: Painted the Shawnee hallways Installed new lockers at Liberty Junior Created a new, appropriate size space for students with multiple handicaps at Adena Expanded size of two classrooms at Adena, added ADA restroom stalls. Painted Central Office Installed automatic door openers at the Heritage main entrance
Systems Projects: Replaced roof-top HVAC units on three buildings Replaces chiller at Heritage Major repairs and servicing on chillers and chilled water loops at both high school main campuses Installed more than 150 white boards to support new 3M units in multiple buildings Replaced entire roof system on Hopewell Elementary (under warranty)
