First day of summer for kids

It is the first day of summer vacation for Lakota students and boy is it a scorcher! While the kids are at play, I know plenty of things are still happening. Monday, the board of education will meet. I will keep you posted on news coming from Central Office.

You will have noticed in today’s paper we had lots of graduation information. This summer I would love to hear about college plans. I have two interns working with me, and they are interested in interviewing students about how they make their college decision. One intern said she wonders if religious preferences plays a role.

I think it does. What about you? I know that was the number one criteria for me; the school had to have a strong Christian fellowship organization. I ended up going to Anderson University for a year to run track and cross country (another criteria for me.) I chose the Christian college for the faith-based education and worship experiences. My sophomore to senior years I went to Miami University, which is also a wonderful place to find Christian organizations. My husband chose Cedarville, because he wanted to strengthen his faith with Bible teaching and chapels each day. He wanted a small school where he wouldn’t get lost in the crowd. It is kind of a joke on campus that many students choose the school to get their MRS degree. For a lot of women, it is a great place to find Christian guys.

What is most important to you? Big dorms? Air conditioning? Ivy League status? Alumni connections? Potential spouses? How did you know the right school when you saw it? What was the final factor in deciding?
