Lakota pride, even from the outside

I will be judging the Golden Memories, Lakota on Parade floats or banners this Saturday. I think it is going to be an incredibly difficult task, especially knowing the hard work that went into creating these projects. It has been so refreshing to see Lakota staff, students and parents unite around such a fun event. I look forward to seeing people line the streets to cheer on their Lakota students. I don’t have children yet, but I feel like the more than 18,000 Lakota kids are great fill-ins. I love to hear their stories. I love to talk to parents about their children. I feel like in this job, I can live vicariously through teachers without all the stress of teaching. I can experience what it is like to be on a school board, yet never have to make those tough decisions for the district. I can gain insight into hundreds of households, businesses and festivals as each day I go out to cover local stories. I won’t say this job doesn’t have its stressors, but I LOVE working with my Lakota community. I love running into you at Kroger Marketplace. I love hearing your story ideas as I am out running in the park. I love seeing your children get off the bus in my neighborhood. I love watching you haul your chairs and children across the tennis courts to the sidelines of Liberty Junior practice fields, and I especially appreciate when you toss back all the tennis balls I knock outside the fence. Lakota is my community, and I am so proud to be a part of the school district, even if at times I am just an observer on the outside looking in. Please say hi to me and let me know how we are doing at the Pulse Journal. I believe in this community, and as a member of it, I believe in promoting local news for you. Whether you leave me comments on my blog, e-mail me, or stop me at the grocery store, I am here to serve you.
