Marshall’s Thomasson suspended for 2 games, out for Flyin’
Thurgood Marshall senior Joe Thomasson has been suspended for the team’s next two boys basketball games following Tuesday’s 69-49 victory over visiting City League rival Stivers.
City League athletic director Jonas Smith confirmed that Thomasson will miss the Cougars’ two games in this weekend’s Good Samaritan Flyin’ to the Hoop. Thomasson was ejected from the Stivers game for unsportsmanlike conduct.
“Per (Ohio High School Athletic Association) rules, he will have to sit out the next two games,” Smith said.
“It’s an unfortunate situation, but sometimes things happen in the heat of the game.”
Thomasson, a 6-5, 160-pound forward, is averaging 11.8 points for Marshall. A Wright State University recruit, he plans to enroll at the school this fall but won’t practice or play with the Raiders until the 2013-14 season.
The Cougars (4-4) also had to forfeit three prior wins because of an ineligible reserve. Marshall’s only on-court setback was to unbeaten Dunbar in the season opener at WSU, 58-57.
Marshall is scheduled to play national power Findlay Prep (Nev.) at 8:15 p.m. Friday in Flyin’ to the Hoop at Fairmont’s Trent Arena. Marshall also is paired against Grace Prep (Texas) in Monday’s 8:30 p.m. finale.

It’s very unfortunate That the situation happen. Violence is never the answer. Joe is a natural born leader, and he takes his job serious. He wanted to protect his team mates!! Sometimes we don’t think about what we do when we do it. I don’t agree with this decision it wasn’t as they are making it out to be. Never the less we have learned a valuable lesson.

It’s automatic that if you’re ejected from an OHSAA athletic contest, you sit 2 games. It doesn’t happen often because most H.S. athletes have had it firmly stated to them by their coach, AD, and administration, that it is never acceptable to lose control. This comes from lack of discipline from the top.

No, Mr. Smith (AD). These things don’t happen ever, most places, because most coaches, AD’s, and school Principals have made it clear, it won’t be handled by saying, “things happen in the heat of the battle.”

This ain’t battle, it’s a game. Violence cannot be tolerated on or off the court.

It’s a shame, but he will learn from it. At 165 lbs at 6’5” I don’t think he should be trying to fight anyone until he puts on a few pounds. I don’t think it would have mattered if he played or not Findlay is too big and skilled.

It would be nice to report the whole story and not just half of the story. Two players were ejected from the game. Why didnt the Stiver player who started the incident get mentioned (#42)in this story. It is unfair to judge Joe Thomasson for pushing the Stiver player away from his teamate. It wasnt a fight ,or the actions of a thug as this story would have the reader believe. On the good side Mr.Thomasson will learn two thing from his poor decision choice.First that ever decisions made will have consequences.Secondly as a young athlete once you get your name in the paper for good reasons ,you will get it in the paper even faster for bad ones.I was a witness at the game in question, and both players made bad decisions and pay the price by sitting out two game.Again this was not a fight, that why the blog say unlikely sportmanship .Boyh if the whole story was told who would want to read it . It sells more papers to have you believe that this is a violent person who cant control themself in a civilized manner.

Not true You know who. I got the whole game on video including the incident in question. No one came off the bench. Get your facts straight and quit going off what you heard.
