Marshall’s Thomasson suspended for 2 games, out for Flyin’

Thurgood Marshall senior Joe Thomasson has been suspended for the team’s next two boys basketball games following Tuesday’s 69-49 victory over visiting City League rival Stivers.

City League athletic director Jonas Smith confirmed that Thomasson will miss the Cougars’ two games in this weekend’s Good Samaritan Flyin’ to the Hoop. Thomasson was ejected from the Stivers game for unsportsmanlike conduct.

“Per (Ohio High School Athletic Association) rules, he will have to sit out the next two games,” Smith said.

“It’s an unfortunate situation, but sometimes things happen in the heat of the game.”

Thomasson, a 6-5, 160-pound forward, is averaging 11.8 points for Marshall. A Wright State University recruit, he plans to enroll at the school this fall but won’t practice or play with the Raiders until the 2013-14 season.

The Cougars (4-4) also had to forfeit three prior wins because of an ineligible reserve. Marshall’s only on-court setback was to unbeaten Dunbar in the season opener at WSU, 58-57.

Marshall is scheduled to play national power Findlay Prep (Nev.) at 8:15 p.m. Friday in Flyin’ to the Hoop at Fairmont’s Trent Arena. Marshall also is paired against Grace Prep (Texas) in Monday’s 8:30 p.m. finale.
