Four area players in North-South Classic All-Star Football Game
Four area seniors will play for the South team in Friday’s North-South Classic All-Star Football Game at Columbus.
On the South roster are DB Roger Williamson of Dunbar (Michigan State), DB Nick VanHoose of Graham (Northwestern), Valley View QB Kyle Pohl (Akron) and Xenia OL Nathan Nicol (undecided).
The annual game is sponsored by the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association and will be held at OSU’s Ohio Stadium for the second straight year.
Future Buckeyes to play in the Classic are North members Chase Farris, DE, Elyria; Doran Grant, DB, Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary; Steve Miller, DE, Canton McKinley; Devin Smith, WR, Massillon Washington; and South member Nick Vannett, TE, Westerville Central.
Like last year, the contest will be followed by OSU’s spring game on Saturday.
The Classic is at 4 p.m. Friday. Cost is $5 at the gate. The game also will be shown on tape delay at 4:30 p.m. Sunday on SportsTime Ohio.

As a really old football coach I prefer living in the present than the past. But it pains me a bit to see the state all-star reduced to a few paragraphs. It was once the showcase of state talent playing their last high school game before a packed house before they went off to college. Now with players graduating early to make spring practice at many colleges, the game has little more prestige than local all-star games. I still hope these young men consider it an honor to play in the state all-star game.
