Area seniors sign to play college sports
The following area athletes recently signed to play college athletics:
• Chaminade Julienne senior Rachel Collins has signed to run cross country at Ohio Dominican. She will receive an athletic grant in addition to an academic scholarship to cover nearly all tuition costs.
“Rachel is one of those athletes that only comes around once every so often,” said Greg Mueller, CJ’s girls coach.
“She’s talented athletically, she’s talented academically, but she’s just such a positive person. We wish her the best of luck.”
In her senior season as captain of the Eagles cross country team, Collins qualified for the D-II regional and has twice been named to the GGCL Grey North Second Team All-Conference. In addition, she is a member of the track team, National Honor Society and was named the 2011 recipient of the school’s Sister Damienne Scholarship, which awards one senior a $10,000 college grant, renewed annually for four years.
• Katie Landwehr of Tippecanoe will sign on Wednesday, April 20, to run cross country and track (indoor and outdoor) at Michigan State University.
She won the D-II state title last fall (18:05), was third as a junior and sixth as a sophomore.
• Sarah Botts of Valley View has signed to play volleyball at Heidelberg. She was first team All-SWBL in 2008-10 and was first team All-District 15 in 2009-10.
She also is the senior class valedictorian. Heidelberg (33-6), won the Ohio Athletic Conference title.
• Clark Henson of Urbana has signed to play baseball at Findlay.
Last season he batted .368 with 18 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.
• Cora Van Dine of Greeneview has signed to play volleyball at Glenville (W.Va.) State. She was a two-year varsity letter winner and played club volleyball with the Dayton Juniors.
