Fort Recovery girls state hoop facts
Fort Recovery plays Anna in the D-III girls basketball state semifinals at 1 p.m. on Friday at OSU’s Schottenstein Center.
The following info was provided by the OHSAA:
The four schools that make up the Division III state semifinals boast a combined record of 95-5 and feature three top 10 teams, including the number one.
Unranked Fort Recovery (23-2) is making its third final four appearance after taking down second-ranked Millbury Lake, and sixth-ranked Columbus Africentric in the regional tournament. The Indians are led by senior twins Holly Brunswick (12.5 PPG, 81 FT %) and Kendra Brunswick (12.4 PPG, 83 assists). Fort Recovery is returning to the state tournament 20 years after its last appearance, winning back-to-back championships in 1990 and 1991.
Anna (25-1), ranked No. 3, has made it to the state semifinals after taking down undefeated Georgetown in the regional semifinal, then defeating 10th-ranked Richwood North Union in the regional final. The lone loss on the year came all the way back in December against Tippecanoe and since then the Rockets have won 21 straight.
No. 1 ranked Oak Hill (24-0) is looking to continue its undefeated season after defeating Minford and Sardinia Eastern in its regional tournament. The Lady Oaks are led by junior Breanna Butler (18.7 PPG) on offense and total team effort on defense, holding opponents to an average of 37 points per game. Oak Hill is making its third appearance in the state final four, finishing as runner-up in its previous two appearances in 2004 and 2009. The Lady Oaks will take on Elyria Catholic in the state semifinal matchup.
Seventh-ranked Elyria Catholic (23-2) has made the state semifinals after defeating Gates Mills Gilmour Academy, 48-46, and Youngstown Ursuline, 50-41, in the regional tournament. The Panthers are making their first ever appearance in the final four, after being unable to advance from the regional finals in 2010. Two Panthers have scored over 1,000 points in their career. Senior Emily Taylor accomplished the feat in 2010, while teammate senior Ashley Schuster hit the mark in the regional semifinal game against Gilmour Academy.
