Fort Loramie girls state hoop facts
Fort Loramie will play Shadyside (26-0) in the D-IV girls state basketball state semifinals at 6 p.m. on Thursday at OSU’s Schottenstein Center.
The following info was provided by the OHSAA:
The Division IV final four features all four teams with more than 20 wins and matchups that include No. 1 versus No. 8 and an undefeated team taking on an opponent which has made it this far for the sixth time.
Fort Loramie (21-5) comes into the state semifinals unranked, but making its sixth appearance in the final four. The Redskins beat fifth-ranked Minster and seventh-ranked Tri-Village to make it to Columbus. The team is led by seniors Janel Oldberding (11.0 PPG) and Clair Ruhenkamp (13.5 PPG), who both have scored over 1,000 points in their career. In their previous five attempts, the Redskins have only made it to the championship game once, finishing as runner-up in 1997.
Undefeated but unranked Shadyside (26-0) rolled through its regional tournament defeating both Lowellville and Dalton by double digits. In their third final four appearance the Tigers are led by senior Kelsey Holloway and sophomore Karli Bonar who both average about 12 points. Shadyside is back to the state semifinals after reaching that point back-to-back years in 2002 (state runner-up) and 2003.
In the second semifinal, matchup No. 8 Delphos Jefferson (23-2) is led by senior Kristin Klausing (18.4 PPG), junior Kennedy Boggs (15.3 PPG) and team leading rebounder senior Briget Culp. Jefferson made the state final four by defeating second-ranked Arlington, 49-46, and fourth-ranked Bucyrus Wynford, 74-48. In his 29th year, head coach Dave Hoffman has led the Ladycats to their first ever state semifinals appearance. Jefferson will play Canal Winchester Harvest Prep.
No. 1 ranked Harvest Prep (24-1) comes into the state semifinals having not lost to an Ohio team all year. The returning state champion Warriors are making their second appearance in the final four in as many years, making it through their regional tournament defeating Mansfield St. Peter’s and Reedsville Eastern. Harvest Prep is led by senior Shicole Watts (13.9 PPG, 9.0 RPG) and senior Ayrealle Beavers (5.2-to-1 assist/turnover ratio).

Anna will play Fort Recovery in the D-III girls state basketball state semifinals at 1 p.m. on Friday at OSU’s Schottenstein Center.
The following info was provided by the OHSAA:
The four schools that make up the Division III state semifinals boast a combined record of 95-5 and feature three top 10 teams, including the number one.
Anna (25-1), ranked No. 3, has made it to the state semifinals after taking down undefeated Georgetown in the regional semifinal, then defeating 10th-ranked Richwood North Union in the regional final. The lone loss on the year came all the way back in December against Tipp City Tippecanoe and since then the Rockets have won 21 straight.
Unranked Fort Recovery (23-2) is making its third final four appearance after taking down second-ranked Millbury Lake, and sixth-ranked Columbus Africentric in the regional tournament. The Indians are led by senior twins Holly Brunswick (12.5 PPG, 81 FT %) and Kendra Brunswick (12.4 PPG, 83 assists). Fort Recovery is returning to the state tournament 20 years after its last appearance, winning back-to-back championships in 1990 and 1991.
No. 1 ranked Oak Hill (24-0) is looking to continue its undefeated season after defeating Minford and Sardinia Eastern in its regional tournament. The Lady Oaks are led by junior Breanna Butler (18.7 PPG) on offense and total team effort on defense, holding opponents to an average of 37 points per game. Oak Hill is making its third appearance in the state final four, finishing as runner-up in its previous two appearances in 2004 and 2009. The Lady Oaks will take on Elyria Catholic in the state semifinal matchup.
Seventh-ranked Elyria Catholic (23-2) has made the state semifinals after defeating Gates Mills Gilmour Academy, 48-46, and Youngstown Ursuline, 50-41, in the regional tournament. The Panthers are making their first ever appearance in the final four, after being unable to advance from the regional finals in 2010. Two Panthers have scored over 1,000 points in their career. Senior Emily Taylor accomplished the feat in 2010, while teammate senior Ashley Schuster hit the mark in the regional semifinal game against Gilmour Academy.

Carroll plays Clyde (25-0) in the D-II girls state basketball semifinals at 3 p.m. on Thursday at OSU’s Schottenstein Center.
The following info was provided by the OHSAA:
The Division II final four has three teams making their first appearance and has two ranked teams along with the state champion from 2009 and 2010.
Fourth-ranked Carroll (21-4) comes into the final four after defeating cross-town rival Chaminade-Julienne, 40-35 in the regional final. The Patriots are making their first state semifinal appearance after losing in the regional finals in 2006 and 2008. Carroll will look to get to the free throw line in the state tournament, as all five starters shoot over 70% from the charity stripe.
No. 3 and undefeated Clyde (25-0) is making its first appearance in the state semifinals after taking down Lima Bath in the regional final. The Fliers start two freshmen, Amanda Cahill (16.6 PPG) and Breanne Michaels (7.2 PPG), to help senior center Kaylea Griffin (11.4 PPG, 8.4 RPG) in the frontcourt. Clyde meets Dayton Carroll in the second semifinal game of Division II.
Cambridge (21-4) enters the state semifinals after defeating Marietta and narrowly escaping Jonathan Alder, 48-47, in the regional final. The unranked Bobcats enter their first state semifinals led by a senior class which has posted the most wins in school history for four consecutive years and has a 78-17 overall record.
Opposing Cambridge in the state semifinal will be unranked Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown (16-9). The two-time defending state champion is appearing in its fifth straight final four after finishing as runner-up in 2007 and 2008. The Blazers make their way back to the semifinals after defeating Norton and seventh-ranked Mentor Lake Catholic in the regional tournament. Hathaway Brown is averaging 62.7 points per game as a team, while allowing an average of 44.7.

Fairmont plays Toledo Start in the D-I girls state basketball semifinals at 6 p.m. on Friday at OSU’s Schottenstein Center.
The following info was provided by the OHSAA:
Beginning with Division I, three of the four teams are ranked, all have over 20 wins on the year and one is making its first appearance ever in the final four.
Fourth-ranked Fairmont’s (25-1) lone blemish on the season came against Vandalia Butler in January, and the Firebirds have now registered 16 straight wins since to make their way to the state semifinals against Toledo Start. Head coach Tim Cogan, last year’s Division I Coach of the Year, has led Fairmont to its second appearance in the state final four in as many years.
Seventh-ranked Toledo Start (23-2) is making its second appearance in a final four. The Spartans were Division I state runners-up in their only other appearance, losing to Cincinnati Mt. Notre Dame in the 2009 title game. Start is led by seniors Azia Bishop (16.4 PPG) and Maleeka Kynard (14.2 PPG), who topped the 1,000 career points mark halfway through the 2011 season.
The other half of the Division I final four holds second-ranked Twinsburg (25-0), coming out of its region after defeating returning state champion and No. 1 ranked, undefeated Canton McKinley 48-39 in the regional final. The undefeated Tigers, led by junior Malina Howard, who is averaging a double-double (20 PPG, 10 RPG), are making their first trip to the state final four, and will take on Pickerington North in their state semifinal.
Unranked Pickerington North (21-5) has played its way to the final four after defeating No. 9 Columbus Northland in the regional semifinal and taking down Lakota East in the regional final. Led by senior Kevunaa Edwards averaging 21.0 points per game, the Lady Panthers have made it to the final four for the second time, with their previous trip occurring in 2007.
