MASSILLON - This is it.

It’s an hour before kickoff. Weather is clear, ice cold and perfect for a great football game.

My advice to you: Hunker down the refresh often.

Trotwood AD Jim Ladd was like a proud father two hours before the game. He viewed a mostly empty stadium, except for a few players stretching, and reflected what this moment meant for Trotwood the community, Rams football and, well, himself.

In AD Jim Ladd’s his words …

“It’s a great, memorable moment. It’s an opportunity for kids to get some memories and experience of a lifetime. You’ll see (Marcus) Graham, all of them, bragging about it when they’re 50 years old, how they played in a state championship game, and that’s great.

“I graduated in 1974 (from Urbana H.S.) and to be honest, we didn’t even know that there was a playoff system.

“The most important thing we could do right now is keeping them settled and relaxed and keeping them busy. There’s a lot of down time. I think (Maple Heights) came down today. I don’t know if that’s an advantage or disadvantage. We didn’t want to make a 3.5-hour ride, get off the bus and play football.

“I’ve always had that itch (to coach). Sometimes, that’s why I don’t even go out to practices and watch. That itch is always going to be there.

“A 27-7 halftime (deficit, in the 34-27 defeat of Uniontown Lake in the D-II state semifinals last week) and to be here? That says a lot. I think it’s a character thing. It’s going to benefit these kids even further down the line. When you can do what they did to get here, I mean, geez. You can do anything. And if they win, that’s icing on the cake.”

To concentrate on the negative aspects of Coach Douglass is irrational. You are bad mouthing a coach who has placed his players in D1 colleges. There are many coaches who complain about how games are going, but considering he is an African-American the positive things he has done go out the window? To complain about what this man has done is totally absurd. I am truly proud of what he has done with those students on the field and off the field, so please dont hate. GO RAMS!!!

Well as I said above a 5 pt loss close as it could be 4 pt instead. After a huge lead Rams faltered. Now to prove my point did the players give up No, Coach Douglas did not make the changes needed to win the game. Like I said, listen to his reasons why they lost a game they should have easily won

Well T-M played good, just could not stop QB Shaq Washington in the second half. T-M still did an excellent job of representing this area even though I am sure they wanted to bring home the big prize.

It all starts with coaching leading the boys. Coach lost not tho boys Douglas was out coached as he could not make the changes needed. Never did I blame the boys nor called them thugs..

The kids should be proud. Parents of players should be proud (Getting them to practice/supporting them, etc.) Good season, I was truly pulling for them to win! EVERYONE should want a local team to win. They have nothing to hang their head about. Congratulations.

Samson, no, you misread me. I was refering to what jojo said talking about them being thugs. I have 7 boys who attended trotwood and three of them played varsity. i also have a 15 year old who will be in high school next year and will be playing football. i am a trotwood fan who lives in trotwood. i did not like them being called thugs.

How to lose a state D-2 championship game by Mo Douglas, first tell your team the county and the state of Ohio is against you, when their really cheering for you, second keep the ball away from Antwan Gilbert the best back in the state on fourth and 1 and fourth and 2,But most of all don`t make any adjustments on defense at halftime so the other teams adjustments will work.

What a great season for the Rams! Congrats to the Trotwood Coaches and Players. The sting from the lost still hurts but as you look back this great season will always be with you. Good Luck to all of you in your futures.
