Girls Basketball Preview: Eaton
This is another in a series of capsules previewing area high school basketball for the 2010-11 season:
EATON
Coach: Randy Titkemeyer, third season
2009-10 record: 8-13 (3-9 SWBL Southwestern)
Returning starters
Ashley Neavin, Sr.
Emma Springmier, Sr.
Notable
Seniors Neavin and Springmier the team into the season as the lone returning starters. A couple sophomores and freshmen could see some early playing time, too. Expect the Eagles to be quick and there’s plenty of hustle. But with a lack of size rebounding and boxing out need to improve. “We will be small and young but we will be pesky,” Titkemeyer said. “We have two quality seniors who will have to lead us and play consistently for us to be successful.”

TweetGirls Basketball Preview: Milton-Union
This is another in a series of capsules previewing area high school basketball for the 2010-11 season:
MILTON-UNION
Coach: Richard Cline, second season (20th overall, 191-225)
2009-2010 record: 2-19 (0-12 SWBL Southwestern)
Returning starters
Danielle Vincent, Jr., G, 5-2
Katelyn Vincent, Jr., G, 5-3
Haley Feathers, Sr., F, 5-4
Megan Swartz, Jr., F, 5-9
Cate Busse, Jr., C, 5-10
Notable
Five starters return from that two-win season with more experience in Cline’s system, though Feathers is out until January with a knee injury. The Bulldogs — who move from the Southwestern Division to the Buckeye Division this season — want to establish the inside game with Busse and Swartz. Seniors Sally Trout - a state tennis qualifier who didn’t play last season - and Kendall Seevers add depth at forward and should help the team improve its rebounding and boxing out from a season ago. “We are excited to begin the season and feel we will be much improved over a year ago,” Cline said. “This is an outstanding group of young ladies to work with and they want to continue to become a better basketball team.”

TweetGirls Basketball Preview: Franklin
This is another in a series of capsules previewing area high school basketball for the 2010-11 season:
FRANKLIN
Coach: Leah Zimmerman, first season
2009-10 record: 11-10 (7-5 SWBL Southwestern)
Returning starters
Danielle Williams, Sr., G, 5-6
Chrissy Robinson, Jr., G, 5-7
Notable
Zimmerman takes over a program that finished fourth in the Southwestern Division. Defense should be a strength as the Wildcats adapt to a new system and coaching staff. They’ll be tested early by playing their first four games on the road against Waynesville, Oakwood, Monroe and West Carrollton. Robinson returns to start at point and Williams also adds depth at guard. Junior Kelli Wilson and freshman Kelsi Wilson take over the post after the graduation of Brandi McDaniel (19.7 points, 12.1 rebounds). “I am very excited to be in the midst of basketball season,” Zimmerman said. “I have a hard working group of athletic girls who look to be very successful. As coaching styles and players begin to mesh I can only imagine where that will take us.”

TweetGirls Basketball Preview: Brookville
This is another in a series of capsules previewing area high school basketball for the 2010-11 season:
BROOKVILLE
Coach: Todd Gentis, first season
2009-10 record: 19-4 (9-3 SWBL Southwestern)
Returning starters
Sidney Cera, So., PG, 5-2
Notable
Gentis replaces Jayme Boston after coaching the junior varsity team the past two seasons. He inherits a team that graduated four of five starters, including Wright State University’s Courtney Boyd. Cera will be looked on to lead the offense and keep alive the team’s streak of 21 straight winning seasons. Senior forwards Georgia Lammers (6-0) and Taylor Woodworth (5-9) both saw varsity action last season and senior center Jenny Ingle (6-5) — who signed to play volleyball at Miami University — returns after not playing last season. Sophomore guard Taylor Howell, who played at Franklin-Monroe last season, could be the team’s outside threat. Gentis needs scorers to step up, especially after losing Boyd’s 30 points per game. “The success of this season will be determined by how fast our players can make the transition from being varsity role players and JV players to varsity basketball,” Gentis said. Chuck Gross, who won 365 games as a former varsity coach, takes over the JV team.

TweetGirls Basketball Preview: Bellbrook
This is another in a series of capsules previewing area high school basketball for the 2010-11 season:
BELLBROOK
Coach: Jason Tincher, 7th season (92-43)
2009-10 finish: 16-7 (11-1 SWBL Southwestern)
Returning starters
Leisha Crawford, Jr., G, 5-7
Shelby Sigman, Jr., F, 5-9
Erin Dorn, So., F, 5-10
Gabrielle Etter, So., G, 5-8
Kelly Neumann, So., C, 5-11
Riley Weng, Sr., C, 5-11
Notable
The Golden Eagles are loaded for another run at the SWBL Southwestern Division, which they’ve won nine of the past 10 seasons. Weng is a returning starter with an asterisk, returning to the team after taking last season off. She teams with Neumann for depth inside, but size is still a concern. With their fundamentals and athleticism Tincher wants to run the floor and extend the court with defensive pressure. “Get better at every opportunity, get better every day,” Tincher said of his team’s outlook. Bellbrook, the defending division champ, has 21 straight winnings seasons.
