At 7 p.m., Centerville and Wayne will kick off their Division I, Region 4 semifinal for the chance to play either Colerain or St. Xavier in next weekend’s regional final (the state quarterfinal level).
It’s a rematch of a Week 8 game that Wayne won 34-10. In that game, Wayne QB and Ohio State recruit Braxton Miller passed for 225 yards and 2 TDs, continuing his career trend of strong performances against Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division rival Elks.
Since starting 0-2, Wayne (8-3) has has won eight of nine games, with the only loss coming against Springfield (which is also still alive in the playoffs and will face defending state champion Hilliard Davidson in a Region 3 semifinal tonight). Miller has passed for 1,432 yards and 10 TDs and rushed for 465 yards and 11 TDs.
Centerville (9-2) has won three straight since consecutive losses to Northmont and Wayne threatened to derail what had before that been an undefeated season. Since rushing for 13 yards against Wayne in Week 8, fullback Chris Barr has played well with 85, 103 and 147 yards in the three games. QB Jon Overstreet (1,141 yards, 10 TDs) remains the team’s leading rusher.
The last time an area big-school team played in a regional final was in 2005, when Wayne beat Centerville 29-28 in the regional semifinal to advance. One of these teams will advance tonight, and Wayne is hoping for a repeat, both of 2005 and Week 8.

Wayne beats Centerville twice this year. I love it when that happens. Now I’m going to start cheering for the Elks that are going to OSU.

Love it so so much, Wayne beats Centerville, N’Mont beats Centerville. And as always Centerville Coach Ullery goes for it on 4th down when the games are on the line and fails to make a first down. Then the opposing teams score on him and win the game. Northmont did it twice and now Wayne tonight in the big game. Time to retire Ullery you are history. Terrible fan turnout tonight by Centerville fans guess they had to go to the opera instead. Colerain losses also Wayne easily we win State

I must agree that as a Elk parent I along with others are very disappointed with the way Coach Ullery and his staff handles the play calling. Maybe it is time for a change as the boys are boys not professionals as of yet.

Centerville won the game on the field only to see the refs hand Wayne a late TD to tie the game. Everyone at the stadium knows the best team tonight was the Centerville Elks! Don’t worry, Wayne: your payback is coming next week when you get blown out!

Cry Centerville Cry, ofcourse blame it on the refs, whom else not your coach for going for it on 4th down and not making it, not your kicker for shanking a simple extra point, not your defense line for not putting more pressure on Braxton Miller, not your fans for not showing up and supporting your school. Need I go on? Oh by the way meet me here next week when you see Wayne 36 St.X 14 .. mERRY CHRISTMAS elk

Old line I’ve hear for years is C on Centerville sports logo stands for CHOKE. Never wanted to beleive it, but now I do. As don’t use that lame “the refs screwed us” stuff. If you’re a great team you don’t blow a 10-point lead in the playoffs.

Have to admit it, but I think the “C” does stand for “choke”. Centerville usually fields good teams in all sports but can never pull out the big win, whether it’s football, soccer, or basketball.

Go Warriors! Blame it on the refs Centerville - is that why they moved the ball in your favor all night? You let Wayne back in the game after a ten point lead - bit you didn’t it! Never count the Warriors out!

I saw the second, third, and fourth quarters of the St. X-Colerain game. I haven’t seen Wayne play, but we’ll see. Don’t count out St. X. They’re offense is clicking, and their schedule is brutal. Where’s next week’s game? Miami U. or UD?

You’re seriously blaming the refs? I would have to say the refs were bad on both sides tonight. Choke? I did not see a team that choked tonight at all. Give the Elks credit though, they played well and fought hard. It was a good game. WTG Warriors! We’re not looking ahead past next week, so no going to state will not be “easy”. Just take this one week at a time.

Losing a 16 point lead and trying to blame it on officiating is not a “harm and cheerful” attitude but it’s typical of a delusional Centerville resident.

I’m not a fan of either team and this looks like a great game for both teams…. however…. did Centerville really think they could win a championship with a team that doesn’t pass the football! I mean this qb threw one pass the whole game. Sorry people but this style will never win a championship… hate to break it to you.

Both teams played hard, and the officiating stunk on both sides. Can someone please explain “offensive encroachment”? Anthone Taylor’s quote after last week’s victory for Wayne against the Middies said it best: “No one wants it more than us.” Wayne proved that on the field last night. Let’s not leave out the 12th Man — Wayne Fans. Give yourselves a hand too for turning out huge, and early, and loudly chanting “D-FENSE, D-FENSE” to urge Wayne’s defense at critical times and just generally being supportive. Great win for the Warriors, and yes, a true “instant classic.”

C’ville plays the same game year after year. Put 10 in the box & C’ville is toast. Over the last 20 yrs u would think they would have someone that could pass the ball.

I am disappointed because my grandchild play on the wee elks but since I am a Wayne graduate I cannot say I am that upset. I go to many Centerville elks games and yes the Centerville crowd is slightly irrating with how they look down upon other not so fortunate communities. On the other hand, maybe Wayne fans are a little jealous.

My family spent $90 to get tickets to this game and were so excited to go. Unfortunately we sat in a section with students that stood on the seats all night long. The student section should be roped off and at the TOP of the stadium. One student stood on the seat in front of me and his rear end was right in my face, so I asked him to please stand on the concrete. Well that got nasty comments for about a half an hour, such as “this is our school” and “she is just jealous!” Well it was my school too and not sure what I am supposed to be jealous of?? Funny thing is they were not even cheering! Thanks to the rude students, I will never buy tickets to a Wayne game again!

You should feel happy you have students at a game. You must be some person that just wants to sit on your hands because your cold and clap every now and then. At least the fans from Wayne were thrilled to be there and the next one. We need some vocal people there at the game. I bet you would have had a better time listening to the game on the radio it sounds like.

Not certain who wrote the St X-Colerain game was a OT Game It was not. St X had scored 24 points by the 3rd Qt. So how could St X win 24 to 23 in OT? As for Wayne. Great game and SHOULD you win next week against St X. I will cheer for you. However I will take St X over you. You have not played the same teams St X has. the Best in Ohio-Indiana-Pa- Dc- Il, Ky. Hello try these teams every year and then get back to me on who should be in the playoff.

Waynegrad - come early to the game and sit towards the 50 because the students will sit off to the side. However, don’t expect to be sitting at the game, but we usually do not stand on the seat itself. Really Liberty, what do we Wayne fans have to be jealous about?

Once again Centerville is so vain they think this 1950’s offense is going to win them games. First of all, your defense cannot defend the pass. Then you try to catch up with a 5 play offense. This offense does not prepare your kids for the next level. Maybe the lineman,. but no one else. Who rushes their QB 33 times. That’s insane!! Kudos to Wayne, they have your number with or without Braxton because they are more of a complete team. Ullery, times up!! C’ville fans have always been classless, no suprise. Their reputation is as bad as Ullery’s coaching staff.

Great game way to go Warriors. Way to fight to the very end. Braxton hold onto the ball next week as we will not be able to overcome 3 turnovers. Wayne fans and students way to show up and be vocal. These games are first and foremost for the current students, second alumni, and third Huber Heights. So lady take your $ 90 and go enjoy a fine meal with classical music playing in the background for this is Saturday night in Ohio and it is time to get loud and play some FOOTBALL especially against our great rival, Centerville. Centerville fans Coach U is your coach so it is your decision, but go back and watch our first game this year. We, Wayne really dominated you and I mean dominated so your coaching staff actually out coached us this game and our coach went for 2 points in the first half. Who goes for 2 points in the first half down only 16 - 6? Enjoy your time Warrior players especially you seniors and lets go all the way in 2010.

I love it when I see comments from posters who say other communities are “snobs”, “vain” and “classless”. It really shows and is proof of who is classless and snobs. Get a life as this is only a high school football game. The game of life is much more important in the long run than who wins a game.

I am a Wayne fan (two daughters graduated) but I have a lot of respect for Centerville football. Coach Ullery has a solid system and his kids execute to perfection. He gets max performance out of the talent he has…

… and as much as I love watching Wayne’s offense, Centerville’s system and play-calling are more solid because they are NOT predicated on any one player. We’ve seen that Wayne becomes a sub-par team without the QB, and Wayne fans were really holding their collective breath when Braxton limped off the field after one of his runs… C’villes only problem was not enough atheletes on defense to both contain Braxton and cover his receivers…
