At 7 p.m., Centerville and Wayne will kick off their Division I, Region 4 semifinal for the chance to play either Colerain or St. Xavier in next weekend’s regional final (the state quarterfinal level).

It’s a rematch of a Week 8 game that Wayne won 34-10. In that game, Wayne QB and Ohio State recruit Braxton Miller passed for 225 yards and 2 TDs, continuing his career trend of strong performances against Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division rival Elks.

Since starting 0-2, Wayne (8-3) has has won eight of nine games, with the only loss coming against Springfield (which is also still alive in the playoffs and will face defending state champion Hilliard Davidson in a Region 3 semifinal tonight). Miller has passed for 1,432 yards and 10 TDs and rushed for 465 yards and 11 TDs.

Centerville (9-2) has won three straight since consecutive losses to Northmont and Wayne threatened to derail what had before that been an undefeated season. Since rushing for 13 yards against Wayne in Week 8, fullback Chris Barr has played well with 85, 103 and 147 yards in the three games. QB Jon Overstreet (1,141 yards, 10 TDs) remains the team’s leading rusher.

The last time an area big-school team played in a regional final was in 2005, when Wayne beat Centerville 29-28 in the regional semifinal to advance. One of these teams will advance tonight, and Wayne is hoping for a repeat, both of 2005 and Week 8.
