Division II football playoff breakdown

Three teams — Trotwood-Madison, Tecumseh and Carroll — qualified for the Division II high school football playoffs. Their games will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

REGION 8

(8) Carroll (7-3) at (1) Winton Woods (9-1)

Carroll used a late pass play to top Fenwick (7-3) 28-21 on Friday and take the No. 8 spot. It’s the Patriots’ first postseason since 2007 following a string of seven straight playoff appearances from 2001-07. The strong running game has been led by senior Alex Wolodkiewicz, who ranks third in the GCL with 1,110 yards and has scored 10 TDs. Winton Woods, ranked No. 8 in the state, is the defending D-II state champion and has won nine straight after an opening loss against Elder. RB Aaron Kemper leads the FAVC with 1,451 yards and 27 TDs.

(7) Tecumseh (7-3) at (2) Kings (9-1)

Tecumseh reached its third straight postseason, but it didn’t come easy. The Arrows lost their opener to Fairborn and dropped two of their past three, but RBs Zeke Eier (1,089 yards, 14 TDs) and Mike McKee (941 yards, 13 TDs) have led a strong running game to power Tecumseh back to the playoffs. Kings has won seven straight, including a victory against previously undefeated and state No. 4 Turpin on Friday, 35-10, and RB Jamire Westbrook (1,347 yards) has scored 22 TDs.

(5) Harrison (5-5) at (4) Trotwood-Madison (8-2)

Trotwood reached a regional final last season before losing to eventual state champion Winton Woods. The Rams have won five straight, averaging 38 points in that stretch with an improved offense that includes QB Marcus Graham (98.1 pass yards per game) and RB Antwan Gilbert (116.8 rush yards per game). Harrison is making its sixth postseason appearance, including just the second since 1997. Victories against two 9-1 teams, East Central (Ind.) and Kings, helped the team enter the playoffs at 5-5, and junior QB Marcus Woelfel has passed for 1,311 yards.

Have seen Winton Woods play. Carroll will be a little overmatched I think. Tecumeh, this one is easy, just stop Westbrook, well, sounds easy. Trotwood, dont get caught back on your heels looking at Harrison’s 5-5 record. Those 5 wins were against some very, very good teams. I wish all three local teams the very best.
