Division I football playoff breakdown
Four area teams — Springfield, Centerville, Wayne and Troy — qualified for the Division I high school football playoffs. Their games will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday.
REGION 3
(8) Troy (8-2) at (1) Pickerington Central (9-0)
Troy is back in the playoffs for the first time since 2004 with a strong junior class that includes QB Cody May (891 pass yards), RB Marcus Foster (762 yards, 8 TDs) and RB Isaiah Williams (672 yards, 8 TDs). The Trojans were second in the GWOC in offense and third in defense. Pickerington Central, ranked No. 6 in the state, averages 41.7 points while allowing 4.3 points per game with five shutouts. The Tigers will make their 11th playoff appearance and 10th in the past 12 seasons, including a runner-up finish in the 2006 Division II final to Piqua.
(6) Hilliard Darby (8-2) at (3) Springfield (8-2)
Springfield is in the playoffs for the second straight season after losing to Dublin Coffman in the first round last year. Before their merger, North and South never made consecutive playoff appearances. The teams had a common opponent this season in Upper Arlington, which Springfield defeated 26-10 in Week 2 and Darby topped 21-6 in Week 6. Darby lost its finale to region No. 2 Hilliard Davidson 16-0, and its only other loss came against region No. 5 Dublin Coffman 20-19 in overtime.
REGION 4
(8) Wayne (7-3) at (1) Middletown (10-0)
Wayne won its last four games, including victories against Centerville and Northmont, to squeeze into the last spot in Region 4. Warriors QB and Ohio State recruit Braxton Miller finished the regular season with 1,370 passing yards, 419 rushing yards and 19 combined TDs. It’s Wayne’s third straight playoff appearance and the ninth in coach Jay Minton’s 12 seasons. Middletown, No. 5 in the state, finished 10-0 for the first time since 1934. Middies sophomore QB Jalin Marshall has rushed for 1,405 yards and 17 TDs and passed for 659 yards and 12.

The Elks started 6-0 and were state-ranked before finishing with a 2-2 stretch, and first-year QB Jon Overstreet leads the team with 906 rushing yards and 10 TDs. TweetDivision II football playoff breakdown
Three teams — Trotwood-Madison, Tecumseh and Carroll — qualified for the Division II high school football playoffs. Their games will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
REGION 8
(8) Carroll (7-3) at (1) Winton Woods (9-1)
Carroll used a late pass play to top Fenwick (7-3) 28-21 on Friday and take the No. 8 spot. It’s the Patriots’ first postseason since 2007 following a string of seven straight playoff appearances from 2001-07. The strong running game has been led by senior Alex Wolodkiewicz, who ranks third in the GCL with 1,110 yards and has scored 10 TDs. Winton Woods, ranked No. 8 in the state, is the defending D-II state champion and has won nine straight after an opening loss against Elder. RB Aaron Kemper leads the FAVC with 1,451 yards and 27 TDs.
(7) Tecumseh (7-3) at (2) Kings (9-1)
Tecumseh reached its third straight postseason, but it didn’t come easy. The Arrows lost their opener to Fairborn and dropped two of their past three, but RBs Zeke Eier (1,089 yards, 14 TDs) and Mike McKee (941 yards, 13 TDs) have led a strong running game to power Tecumseh back to the playoffs. Kings has won seven straight, including a victory against previously undefeated and state No. 4 Turpin on Friday, 35-10, and RB Jamire Westbrook (1,347 yards) has scored 22 TDs.
(5) Harrison (5-5) at (4) Trotwood-Madison (8-2)
Trotwood reached a regional final last season before losing to eventual state champion Winton Woods. The Rams have won five straight, averaging 38 points in that stretch with an improved offense that includes QB Marcus Graham (98.1 pass yards per game) and RB Antwan Gilbert (116.8 rush yards per game). Harrison is making its sixth postseason appearance, including just the second since 1997. Victories against two 9-1 teams, East Central (Ind.) and Kings, helped the team enter the playoffs at 5-5, and junior QB Marcus Woelfel has passed for 1,311 yards.

TweetDivision III football playoff breakdown
Four area teams — Shawnee, Eaton, Tippecanoe and Dunbar — qualified for the Division III high school football playoffs. Their games will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday
REGION 10
(5) Elida (8-2) at (4) Tippecanoe (9-1)
After a major roster reconstruction, Tippecanoe has made the postseason for the sixth straight season. The Red Devils’ only loss came against 9-1 Shawnee, but they closed the regular season with four straight wins. Senior Adam Ault leads the CBC in tackles with 144, and the offense is led by RB Jacob Polansky (941 yards, 12 TDs). Elida, from the Western Buckeye League, is in the playoffs for the second time in its history and the first since 1982 with its best record since it went 7-3 in 1995.
REGION 12
(8) Washington C.H. Washington (8-2) at (1) Shawnee (9-1)

In winning nine straight and going 5-0 in the tough Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Division, the Braves have averaged 36 points per game with the help of junior QB Brad Jarzab (722 pass yards, 1,002 rush yards, 22 combined TDs). Washington recorded a state runner-up finish in 1981 and is making the fifth postseason appearance in school history, including the first since 2007.
(7) Dunbar (7-3) at (2) McNicholas (8-2)
Dunbar started 0-2 with losses against 6-4 Valley View and 8-2 Trotwood-Madison before closing with a 7-1 finish to get to the postseason for the second time in three years. Michigan State commitment Roger Williamson, a senior defensive back and wide receiver, leads a team that has received inspired play from junior QB Kris Hall. McNicholas QB Matt Staubach (943 rush yards, 648 pass yards, 22 combined TDs) led the Rockets to four straight wins to end the regular season following a 42-14 loss against Alter.
(5) Jackson (9-1) at (4) Eaton (10-0)
Eaton went undefeated by averaging 36.7 points per game and allowing seven points or less in nine of those games (only a 56-28 defeat of Valley View was the exception). QB Cole French is a versatile player who rarely leaves the field, and the Eagles, ranked No. 4 in the state, are big up front on both lines heading into their second straight postseason and sixth appearance in the past 11 years. Jackson won its first outright Southeastern Ohio Athletic League title since 1997 as RBs Klay Arthur and Drew Ervin combined to rush for 463 yards against Gallia Academy on Friday to clinch.

REGION 16
(7) Waynesville (8-2) at (2) Jonathan Alder (9-1)

TweetDivision VI football playoff breakdown
Seven area teams — Springfield Catholic Central, Lehman Catholic, Covington, Fort Loramie, Marion Local, Ansonia and Minster — qualified for the Division VI high school football playoffs. Their games will be played at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
REGION 24
(8) Minster (5-5) at (1) Springfield Catholic Central (9-1)
Catholic Central (No. 7 in the state) lost only to 8-2 Marion Local in Week 2. QB Brian Kelly leads a powerful offense that averaged 38.9 points with skills he displayed in passing for 170 yards and rushing for 162 in a Week 10 win against Mechanicsburg. Minster broke its five-game winning streak (a school best since 1996) with a season-ending loss against Coldwater in Week 10 but still advanced to its first postseason since 2001 (10th overall).
(7) Lockland (6-4) at (2) Lehman Catholic (9-1)
Lehman Catholic is in the postseason for the fifth straight season after winning its final nine games following a season-opening loss against 8-2 Anna. The independent Cavaliers have scored 34 or more points seven times. Lockland, of the Miami Valley Conference, broke a three-game losing streak with a season-ending 53-16 win against Fayetteville, during which it ran just 21 plays and also scored by kickoff return, field goal, punt return and interception return.
(6) Ansonia (9-1) at (3) Covington (10-0)
Covington defeated Ansonia, its Cross County Conference mate, 28-21 in Week 8 and also 28-7 in the first round of last season’s D-VI playoffs. Sixth-ranked Covington is in the playoffs for the 11th time in the past 12 seasons with its first undefeated record since 2007 as RBs Tyler Noffsinger and Isaiah Winston form an imposing pair. Ansonia started 7-0 before its loss to Covington and is in the postseason for the third straight time and fifth overall.
(5) Marion Local (8-2) at (4) Fort Loramie (8-2)
Fort Loramie is making its second straight postseason appearance after its playoff debut last season in just its fifth year as a program. The Redskins advanced to the regional final last year before losing 27-0 to — you guessed it — Marion Local, which then dropped a state semifinal in overtime. Marion Local, ranked No. 8 in the state, won back-to-back titles in 2006 and ’07 and is making its 13th playoff appearance. The Flyers broke a two-game losing streak against 7-3 Coldwater and 10-0 Delphos St. John’s with a Week 10 win against Fort Recovery.
