Former Coldwater coach John Reed dies

John Reed, the ultra successful Coldwater High School football coach, died early Friday morning, May 7, at his home.

He was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus last year and delayed treatment until after the Cavaliers football season, which ended with a 55-25 loss to Youngstown Ursuline in the Division V state final.

He is survived by his wife Jan and children Jacquelyn (Brent) Knackstedt, Heather (Ryan) Fisher, and son David Reed and his parents.

Reed resigned this spring and was succeeded by Coldwater grad and assistant coach Chip Otten.
