Trotwood’s Henry, Dunbar’s Blanks cruise at indoor state meet

Trotwood-Madison’s William Henry and Antonio Blanks of Dunbar both had big days at ninth annual Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches state indoor track meet held Saturday, March 20 at the University of Akron.
Henry, a senior who will run his college track at Arizona State, repeated as the Division I boys 400 meter champion. His winning time was 47.97 seconds which is the seventh best time in the nation indoors according the Dyestat.com website.
In the 200 meters he was second in 21.72 to Latwan Anderson of Cleveland Glenville (21.68).
Blanks, a junior, was a triple winner in the Division II-III boys competition. He won the 200 (22.20), 400 (49.80) and the triple jump in a state record distance for all divisions at 46 feet, 5 inches.
Dunbar was second in the D-II/III boys team competition with 50 points; Pemberville Eastwood was the winner with 55.5 points. The Wolverines’ other points came from a second place in the 800 relay (1:31.56), a second from DeMarco Rutledge in the triple jump (41-5 3/4) and a fifth from Dwayne Harris in the long jump (20-3 1/2).
Laron Brown of Chaminade Julienne. Michael Melchor of Centerville and Marcus Glass of Wayne were also state champs.
Brown, a senior, won the D-II/III 60 in 7.08 seconds. Melchor, a junior, was first in the long jump at 21-feet, 8 3/4 inches. Glass was the triple jump winner at 42-4 3/4 while teammate Kevin Simmons was third at 41-10.
In the D-II/III long jump Mike Wilkins of Stivers was second (20-6 3/4) and Galen Curry of CJ fourth (20-5). Curry was also fourth in the triple jump (39-9 3/4) and eighth in the shot put (39-8 1/4).
CJ was fourth in the team race with 30 points.
Area boys ran well in both the D-I and D-II/III 60 hurdles. DeMoye Bogle of Wayne was second in the D-I race while Melchor third. Bogle was at 8.192, Melchor at 8.194 while fourth was 8.195 and fourth 8.196.
In D-II/III JaShawn Combs of Stivers was second (8.07), Bryan Cain of CJ third 8.17 and Donte McDaniel of Thurgood Marshall fourth (8.29).
Other D-I placers were Bogle, who will run for Ohio State, was second behind Henry in the 400 (50.05); Doug Norris of Vandalia Butler fourth in the 3,200 (9:30.07); Chadd Kiggins of Carroll fifth in the 1,600 (4:26.63); Mike Bennett of Wayne third in the shot put (54-3 1/2) and weight throw (62-3/4) and Oliver Sathoud of Centerville fifth in the triple jump (40-9 3/4).
Cleveland Glenville won the D-I boys team title (49) while Centerville tied for third with 32, Wayne was fifth (28) and Trotwood seventh (21). Trotwood’s national champion 1,600 meter relay team did not run.
In the D-II/III girls, Cierra Brown of CJ was second in the triple jump (35-6 1/2) and third in the 60. Teammate Devanae Mitchell was third in triple jump. Sarah Burke-Williams of Miami Valley was fourth in the long jump (16-4) while Shaytell Furman of Greeneview was fifth (16-3 3/4).
CJ was seventh in the girls team race.
