It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Move over turkey.

If you’ve been inside a store lately, you know that around southwest Ohio (and one would assume, around the country) it’s beginning to look, and sound and yes, even feel, a lot like Christmas.

Stores seem to have skipped right on over Thanksgiving and all of it’s delicious food delight. The few Thanksgiving items stores did have available were sent away like the jack-o-lanterns rotting on the porch with the leftover Halloween goodies and are long-since gone.

But, this is good news if you’re already getting in the holiday spirit. Carols are playing on store radios, gift ideas, candy and decor are everywhere. Stores are already starting their big sales (and price wars).

It’s enough to make a person want to put up the tree and start wrapping gifts. I know a few people who’ve done just that.

So what do you think? Is it too early or just right for the holidays to be upon us? Vote and share your thoughts below.

I think it’s just right. I notice the Christmas stuff and it gets me thinking about yuletides and all that, but I love Thanksgiving just as much and refuse to do anything Christmas-y until after that.

I agree with Bob; however, I always have my eye open for Christmas presents and buy them all year long. Other than that Thanksgiving comes first. On Thanksgiving Eve I flip on the Christmas lights to start the holiday season (it’s easy if you just never take your tree down!!!)

My neighbor put his lights up the day after halloween. He even has a countdown in the front yard that started at 55 days. I think it’s a bit much. I’m going after a Charlie Brown’esque tree this year, and won’t put it up until about 11:50 on December 24th. Then say, “ooooh oooh oooh, oooooh oooooh”

Lets see we can’t call that big tree placed at Court House nothing but a holiday tree, but it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere else?

It is way to early to look at Christmas decorations.. It is one thing to start shopping but to look at all the decorations, you get burnt out before Christmas even gets here. After looking at them for months I am ready for the decorations to be gone by Dec 1st. I was driving down the road on Halloween, and saw whitches, ghosts and goblins running door to door and White Christmas was playing on the radio. They started the music the week belfore Halloween on some radio stations playing round the clock. That is insane

I started getting sick of the Holiday Season in August, when I first started seeing cheap Chinese stuff inside our local dollar stores, and now I don’t want to see no more.

As a Buddhist I fail to understand how the decorating frenzy relates to the meaning of Jesus’ birth. I mean no disrespect, but… it’s disrespectful to the one who gave his life for your redemption. Just like the NBA…the season gets longer every year with pre-season and post-season. It’s not special anymore.

fortressdayton, It doesn’t, it just helps to cheer up an otherwisw sad city during the dark fall/winter months. It’s no disrespect to the Lord. Those up us who worship him do so with or without decorations. Happy holidays to you and yours!
