Help design Hamilton's bottled water label.

As bottling efforts increase, the City of Hamilton is seeking a creative, new label for its “Best Tasting Municipal Tap Water in the World.” As a way to promote the benefits of tap water, the city has been giving bottles away on a promotional basis at city events and to non-profit organizations.

In hopes of marketing and selling the bottled water in retail stores by early 2011, local high school students are encouraged to participate in the drawing competition.

Guidelines:

Create a new label for the city’s bottled water. The background for the label can include a design, computer or hand-generated drawings, photographs, etc.
Branding: Develop a unique and catchy brand name for our water.
Some ideas to consider in the brand name and label are that we get our water from the Great Miami Buried Valley Aquifer; it’s the best tasting tap water in the world; scenery unique to Hamilton such as the High-Main Bridge, the Sailors & Soldiers Monument, the downtown area, etc.
The ideal label size for the competition is a rectangle that is 15.5” wide by 4.5” tall. The actual label on the water bottles will be half that size.
Entries are due by 3 p.m. Friday Nov. 18, and can be submitted by e-mail to bottledwater@ci.hamilton.oh.us or mailed/hand delivered to: City of Hamilton, Department of Gas & Water, Hamilton Municipal Building, 345 High St., 4th Floor, Hamilton, OH, 45011. All entries become the property of the City of Hamilton.
Winners will be announced at a future City Council meeting in Council Chambers on the first floor of the Hamilton Municipal Building.

Questions? Contact Tim Bigler or Jim Collins with the City of Hamilton at (513) 785-7206.

Below are some more goals/plans City Manager Joshua Smith has for Hamilton. Attached below is the full Customer First Pledge.

The city needs to identify and eliminate programs that only offer a marginal benefit to community, and define its core services and allocate resources to those.
The city needs to focus on three areas of economic development: retain existing jobs, expand, and attract new business.
The city’s Executive Leadership Team and the City Manager’s office will take a stronger role in economic development.
The 2011 economic development budget to be submitted to council will reflect major cuts of $160,000 in marketing, and $50,000 in communication contracts.
The city will hire a mid-level economic development professional to coordinate marketing and act as a small business liason because, “Small businesses need a champion to help them work their way through the process (of getting sign permits, zoning applications, etc.),” Smith said.
In the next two years, the city should focus on finding outside financing for redeveloping old industrial buildings known as brownfield sites. “We need to position our community to take advantage of all the necessary next-generation industries,” Smith said. “Anything from green technology to advanced energy, data technologies and healthcare.”
