Hamilton pools likely to stay closed
City officials received a report from the Ohio Department of Health on Friday, May 2, that does not bode well for the city’s pools.
The report recommends that Wilson Pool remains closed this year and that significant improvements need to be made to the North End pool in order for it to open. While the issue will ultimately be decided by city council, the report likely condemns the city’s two remaining pools.
“We don’t have the money to fix it. That’s basically it,” said Parks and Recreation Director Bob Harris.
The city operated four pools just a few years ago. Two closed last summer because of disrepair and lack of funds to fix them.
Harris said his department currently had $147,000 slated for pool operations this year. If that money was enough to cover necessary repairs at the North End pool, he said city council would still have to approve additional funds for the pools operations.

What a sad state of affairs. The City of Hamilton should never have let the pools get into such a state of disrepair. The people of Hamilton deserve so much better. The youth of this city already have nothing to do. It is time for us to get off our butts and do something to put Hamilton back on the map. There is such great potential for this area, yet noone ever seems to tap into it.By BLou

Our pools need repair or are condemned, Most of our streets need re-surfacing. The animal shelter hasn’t been started. Where is our tax money going?By Patti

Next time voting comes around for people on city council, remember these things, and vote them off. This city votes the same people everytime right back on the council. This city needs help, I hate to see this happen to my city. The city I chose to raise my family in. It’s sad people, very sad.By A parent of children who LOVE to swim!

This is not right! The city always says that “We don’t have the money”, but yet we as tax payers see them waste it everyday!!!! My children along with their friends LOVE to go swimming over the summer and now they can’t! Unless I want to drive them to another city…Shame on Hamilton!By A parent of children who LOVE to swim!

Always remember the fun i always had at the Hamilton swimming pools, as a younster and as a teen.Its just a shame Hamilton doesn’t plan ahead knowing the condition of the public pools and doesnt think of summer time, children’s memorys, and cooling off with a swim in a pool with friendsBy The Dog

Hamilton charges a 2.00% wage tax and can’t keep a couple of pools open. Same town that can’t plow snow. But this is your fault. Not the city leaders. You just go and vote for those “names you know”. The people of Hamilton deserve this. Instead of worrying about the 8 millonth way to honor Joe Nuxhall, maybe the leaders can spend some time on the pool situation. Don’t hold your breath. They know that the voters surely won’t hold them accountable.By fed up

yeah we pay higher city taxs then most and you know what its for. its so we can build statues and garbage on high street instead of actually repairing things people in this city care about. all this week ive been seeing them rip out one of the pools that i know has been open for at least 32 years. that pretty much kills this neighborhood. kids will be running all over the place now. I hope those who continue to vote in this city council have good car alarms and a fund set aside to repair thier yards and windows because, what else is there for kids to do in this sad excuse for a town. Oh cant forget we have to spend money on useless commercials about how Hamilton is such a great place to move a business. one thing i can say for that is no its not. you may transfer your workers families here. but i hope you dont mind your kids picking up a drug habit. after all what else is there to do here except drink lots of beer or take up recreational drug use. god im glad i live in Hamilton.By CAM

Mr. Harris has been a disaster as Park Director. He has willfully let the pools slide into disrepair, then proposed a hair-brained scheme for an Aquatic Center at the busiest and dirtiest intersection of Hamilton. He has never understood that like schools, Hamiltonians like a “neighborhood” concept. Mr. Harris and his boss Mr. Ryan need to find another city they can mess up. Good riddance. I hope the city finds money to pay the extra police when the kids off from school start causing trouble because they have nothing to do.
