Water boil advisory in Hamilton
I may or may not be drinking tainted coffee right now.
Following a water main break last night the city issued the advisory asking residents and businesses to boil water as a precaution. I knew the city had issued a water boil advisory when I purchased the 16-ounce cup of joe from the Cappuccino Depot on High Street. However, I figured coffee is boiled. No harm. No foul.
A half hour later, I learned that owner Terry Schmitt had received orders from the city’s health department to close until the advisory was lifted. It seems her boilers only heat the coffee to 185 degrees instead of the necessary 212 degrees. Her machines aren’t equipped to use bottle water and it would likely be cost prohibitive if she did.
Lunchtime is nearing and I’ll check with other businesses about how the advisory is affecting them. But, is this water boil advisory affecting you? Do you boil water or use bottled water to brush your teeth? If so, I’d love to hear about it.

1570 Stalhaber Rd, Field of Grace Daycare is my concern. The last few months there has been sewage back up coming from the side of the building. The daycare said it is caused from the ladies restroom backing up. The stained stream crossing the parking lot of horrible smelling raw sewage is probably about 10ft from the main entrance to the building. I have called the Butler County BOH (which said it was a city issue), the City of Hamilton Health Dept (which said it was about 10 addresses outside the city limits, try the county), Butler county BOH “supervisor”(which said it was a Hanover township issue), The person in charge of the Hanover Township area of Butler County BOH (which said try the city, or Ohio EPA), and yes I have even called the Ohio EPA and they seem to think it is a city or county issue. So, I am looking towards you to shed some light on this for me, or possibly even expose this issue to others that are probably getting the same run around. I have talked to other parents that have got the same run around, one is even a RN at Ft. Hamilton. This parent is wondering how this is NOT a health issue for the daycare like myself. If you could offer other parents and myself some help with this issue, or even help me find out whose “area” this is in it would be GREATLY appreciated. THANK YOU, Frustrated And on top of all the other run around issues with this, I tried to email the editor (link on journal website) and only get a access denied error everytime. Question….if we have to boil our water for consumption, are we allowed to wash our hands & dishes? Local businesses are using paper or plastic to serve food on. I know you have to boil water for teeth brushing, but what about bathing, when you take a shower you get water in your mouth & being the mother of 2 small boys, when bathing, they get water everywhere. Perhaps more information needs to be added to the webpage concerning these questions.By michele

I agree with the above poster..what about bathing and laundry and dishes? I did boil water yesterday for drinking and making my morning coffee today but I forgot and brushed my teeth with tap water but quickly remembered and followed up with Listerine…That stuff hopefully killed any germs..I think the city should have a better system in place like an automatic call system to notify people of this because most people I talked to yesterday didn’t even know about it!
