Gifts for Gardeners

Stumped on what to give the outdoor-sy/gardener/nature-lover in your lfe? Maybe it’s the person who has all they need but you still want to give something. Make your purchase count by supporting an organization they would like. This season, several organizations are offering Holiday specials as an opportunity to get involved! First of course, Five Rivers MetroParks is offering the opportunity to ‘Leaf a Legacy’ here you take a pledge, and we plant a tree. This is a major effort to help re-forest our natural areas hit hardest by the Emerald Ash Borer. Do you know someone who loves the grassroots efforts of community gardens and how it benefits national health? Consider supporting The American Community Gardening Association. They offer a grab-bag of books, t-shirts, publications and other items for the garden lover/supporter, link here to their website. Has your loved one discussed Colony Collapse Disorder and expressed concern over pollinator health? Link here to The Pollinator Partnership website to help fund the research behind this important food security issue. Maybe your friend or partner has caught the ‘back to the land’ buzz and can’t stop talking about a small home farm, Mother Earth Magazine is a wonderful resource for greenhouse building plans, garden designs and time-lines, mobile chicken coop plans; you name it, they have it.
