Lots of school news today
It’s a busy day on the school beat. This morning, caravans from several area schools, including Dayton and Springboro, went to Columbus in an effort to lobby lawmakers, who are considering the state budget, for more school funding.
Tonight, the City Day Community School governing board meets to discuss the fate of Superintendent Roseda Goff.
Also, school officials originally said tonight’s the Dayton Board of Education meeting would address the district’s $30 million in needed budget cuts. The board, I’m told, will empower Mack to make cuts but will not detail all of them.
For instance, the teachers being laid off will not be on this agenda. Their contracts will be officially “non-renewed” at a meeting in June, possibly next Tuesday. Those losing their jobs apparently are being notified this week.
Also, at least two schools will close, but the district won’t announce them tonight. They said they will announce the schools Wednesday after parents have been notified. I’m told other schools could be relocating to different buildings.
Check back here later. I’ll post more when I know more.

It is sad to see a teacher respond in such a way. The grammatical errors were just unbelievable! If I hadn’t been at Allen Classical Academy to see the REAL growth of the students, I would say, “Yes, close that building.” However, NOT ALL OF THE TEACHERS AT ALLEN ARE/WERE AS ILLITERATE AS THIS TEACHER IS!!! Please excuse this and do not hold THIS teacher as an example of what Allen Classical Academy has to offer.By Teacher

At dismissal today, all teachers at Allen Classical Academy, were called for a meeting where Dr. Mack told us we will be closed. He said that parents would be notified tomorrow by letter. Dr. Mack tried to talk a good game, sharing with us, that he felt sorry for us, and mentioned to us teachers needed to work and suppot the next levy in November, He made comments about teachers going to Savannah where there were over 200 jobs, and threw in Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Flordia all had openings. He said that as of now 2 schools would be closed and a third was being considered. All teachers being laid off our to be notified tomorrow by building principals. He tried to encourage us to have faith in this system, however many of us don’t. Union reps were our hand, I guess, but I feel our Union Stinks after Pat Lynch’s comment “She hates to see any administrator lose their job” So D day is tomorrow, lets see what DPS employee’s have to say, GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!
