Wojciechowski pulls name from consideration

Duke assistant Steve Wojciechowski had discussions with Dayton officials about the UD coaching job but has pulled his name from consideration, Duke spokesman Matt Plizga said today.

Wojciechowski, who has been on staff with the Blue Devils since 1999, is not attending the Final Four and has been in Durham, N.C., all week. UD Athletic director Tim Wabler has been traveling all week conducting the search for the next coach, but Plizga didn’t know whether the conversations with Wojciechowski and UD took place over the phone or in person.

Reached by phone, Wabler wouldn’t comment on Wojciechowski or other potential candidates.

The name I keep hearing from sources at the Final Four is St. Mary’s coach Randy Bennett, but he turned down Utah and hasn’t coached east of St. Louis.

I’ve also heard from a source in Houston that Bruiser Flint of Drexel is not a candidate, contrary to early reports.

Wabler has said he’s determined to protect the confidentiality of the discussions he’s had with coaches — “They’ve all got jobs,” he said — and very little information is getting out even among the coaching fraternity.

he did not want to jump onto a sinking ship. we might be stuck with a slimeball like kampe.

Wojciechowski?… of Irish Wojciechowski fame? They dropped the “O” when they immigrated to the U.S. to “Americanize” the name and not confuse people.

tick, tock, tick….the clock is running here. How many actual choices do you have plus you don’t want to lose the committed players from BG’s reign. And, as many others have said more eloquently, don’t hire Bruiser the loser. Pick a guy and announce it NOW!

I’m also a Pollack, and I’m glad he withdrew. We don’t need somebody’s assistant coach. Get someone with a successful track record. I agree with others that Bruiser is also bad news. He’s been around a long time and his teams haven’t accomplished anything. Like RudyFlyer is saying, let’s not take too much longer. Those 2 recruits in Michigan are being courted by other schools for sure.

Why isn’t Blaine Taylor at the forefront of the Dayton Flyer head coaching search? He has a career record of 356-178, going 215-112 with 2nd round NCAA Tourney appearance the last two season at Old Dominion. His wikipedia page states his annual salary at $212,160. I say we nearly triple his salary and get him as head coach of the Flyer!

I think this says they are waiting on someone who is still involved with the FInal Four…so look for the Butler assistant to be named once they are done. Bruiser is UD’s answer to the Rooney Rule.

Let’s get Brusier Flint in here.He is our best chance of keeping the recruits.

Once again Doug Harris probably only gives us a little bit of the story…. or should I say that is all the work he wants to do — probably got it off of the wire. I would imagine Wabler has a list of several possibilities… and they have to contact the school to see if it is ok to talk to coaches or assistants… let’s not hurry into this decision that we will live with for hopefully the next 10 years. It really isn’t about the 2011-2012 season, it is a long term decision !!

If Wojo would have been named head coach I would have waited for him after every game & practice and kicked his annoying a$$! What a joke!

I can’t believe all the chatter about “pick someone already”. Take your time TW. Get it RIGHT. When BG left, I never thought for a SECOND that anything would be announced before the Final Four. The Final4 is a coaching convention. A chance not only to talk to candidates, but to get the opinions of others in the game. If something is not announced by end of next week … THEN get concerned.

Matt Graves will be another typical UD coach and move on once he has milked it for all its worth. UD will always be a 2nd-tier basketball program.

Based on the fact that head coaches move on makes a program a 2nd tier… makes Xavier a 2nd tier program. Chris Mack - 2 yrs. Sean Miller - 5 yrs. Thad Matta - 3 yrs. Skip Prosser - 7 yrs. Pete Gillen - 9 yrs. I will take 2nd tier if it means (gulp) being like Xavier

Fly Boy: Quit pretending you are a UD Flyer fan. There are many who want this job. A chance to take a good team to the next level. Over 300 Division I schools and UD is in the top 30 in attendance forever. A university that throws money at the program with first class facilities on and on and on. Fly Boy just fly away.

If you can’t beat ‘em then join’ em I guess. UD to hire Sean Miller’s younger brother from Arizona. Interesting.
