Flyer tickets going fast
Beating arch-rival Xavier not only gave Dayton credibility on the national scene, but it also has given ticket sales a boost.
“Our phones have been ringing all day,” Gary McCans, UD’s director of premium seating, said Thursday.
As of Friday afternoon, only about 300 tickets were left for the Richmond game at 7 p.m. Saturday, and there are roughly 500 left for the Duquesne game Saturday, Mar. 7.
The Feb. 28 clash with Temple, the Flyers’ only other remaining home game, is already sold out.
For ticket info, call (937) 229-4433.

It is hard for UD to get much credibility. First, UD plays a very weak non-conference schedule. Second, they are afraid of Wright State. Get ready for some “Raider Scared” signs when you come to the Cintas Center. It will be a blast.By Jack

Got to love the arragance of xavier fans. Getting blown out by an average Duke teams mus make you feel good. They beat a vastly overrated tenn team, beat Memphis (good win, but would not come within 20 of them today. V-Tech, Virginia, Auburn, not any good. While I would rather play those team (yes, we played Auburn) then not, but they are nothing to write home about. So, xavier fan, you have actually only played about four good teams, what your record against those teams? Ripping on UD when you cant beat a Horizon at home…a little silly to me.By 21

As I said X-Fan..hard being 2nd fiddle in Cincinnati huh? Doesn’t matter how good you guys are the city will be behind the Bearcats. I’ll be at the Shitas Center when UD comes out with a W and leaps ahead of them as A10 powerhouse.By thepummeler

UD would play WSU if it were at UD, with no return game at the Nutter. Thats the whole issue. Why would UD sacrifice a sellout at the arena to play in front of a sellout crowd at the Nutter, when 2/3 of the tickets would be purchased by UD fans? No, WSU is afraid to play UD at the arena, and greedy to try to fortify ticket sales at the expense of UD’s revenue loss. 2/3 of the patrons at the Nutter would be UD fans who would otherwise be filling the arena. And, 10,000 UD season ticket holders would have to pay to see a “home” game.By UD Craig

We probably are afraid to play WSU but I really don’t care. Our players are not afraid, it is just the fans and coaching staff that are “Raider Scared”. There, now I said it. Now, let’s quit talking about that and beat Richmond.By amy katz

XavierFan - I think you guys should do that - It’s obvious UD and the rest of the A10 doesn’t fear xavier any more as it’s clear it’s an over rated program. Maybe next time you play Duquense, you can make up signs ‘You’re no Pitt!’ or when you play Temple, ‘Villanova is in a better conference’By Jason

If xavier thinks wsu is such a worthy opponent, why don’t they play them home-home?By RUKiddingMeX

Such tough talk from a team that LOST it’s last 2 games. It’s the beginning of the end of season slide for the great mouseketeers.By Honest UD Fan

I would say that about 50% of UD fans are afraid to play WSU. I’m not one of those. A home-and-home series both programs. Pummeller, you totally do not understand the benefit of playing Wright State. First, you make UD look like scared fans. Second, if we play at the Nutter Center, it is much better than having to travel a long distance. We save on gas and time. Third, playing WSU can become a rivalry game. We just have to be smart and realize that a loss is not the end of the world. The Horizon League is better than the MAC and playing home-and-homes against Toledo and Akron make no sense. Other A10 schools are not afraid to play HL schools, and our administration makes us look lame.By amy katz

Anyone w/ 1/2 a brain (which it looks like that excludes xavier fans, most of the DDN sports staff, the wsu fan base, and trolls who call themselves true/honest ud fans) see no advantage for UD to play wsu. just as many fans will show up at UD arena to see akron as wsu — on the other hand, wsu will see an increase in attendance for UD but still won’t sell out (mainly, despire the opinions of some fools, no one in Dayton cared / cares about this game. The only benefit is that wsu will get a boost in attendance — why should UD help wsu generate fan interest? After wsu fans start caring about their team come back and talk about a game with UD (UD has sold out tonights game agaisnt a team that is in the bottom half of the conference — when was the last time wsu did that?)By UDJoe

Leave Amy alone she knows what she is talking about. WSU did not even draw 10k vs Butler, we are not going to help them, build their program. Another thing how tough is the HL when WSU beats everyone and they don’t even have their two best players? how good of competition can it be? Answer not not very good at all… A better home and home would be vs the “valley”By Brad

Last I checked several years back Cleveland State beat UD at the arena and the UD cryers haven’t scheduled HL competition since. :)By tomdawg

Brad… your HL comment makes no sense. UD has lost to a few MAC schools but keeps them on the schedule. I think maybe the Big East is afraid of little ol’ Dayton. With recent wins over Pitt (home) and L’ville, (away) the only way UD could face a Big East team was to catch them in the Chicago tourney. After what they did to Marquette in that game, it’s going to be a long time before we see anyone from the mighty Big East willing to schedule the Flyers again.By tomdawg
