Wright takes Charlotte defeat hard

Chris Wright isn’t happy about his dreary play against Charlotte in a 79-66 loss Sunday, and he’s even more upset about his lack of intensity.

The sophomore forward had a season-low five points and one rebound. He also committed five turnovers.

A four-possession stretch during the 49ers’ game-breaking 19-4 surge typified Wright’s day. He had an offensive foul, a turnover against a full-court press, had a shot blocked and was called for another charge.

“I kind of take some of the blame (for the loss),” he said Monday. “This team lives and dies off hard work, energy and effort, and our team didn’t have it yesterday. I thought about it long and hard last night, and that was out of character for us to play that way.

“Coach (Brian Gregory) tell us he’d rather take mistakes if we’re going 100 miles per hour than not trying. It was devastating. It’s a loss, and I understand everybody loses, but to lose the way we did … I’m going to do everything I can to make sure every game is hard-fought because that’s the type of team we are.

“I guarantee Wednesday (against Xavier) we’ll be a totally different team.”

If the Flyers are to beat Xavier on Wednesday, Warren and Lowrey had better take better care of the ball than they did against Charlotte. They also better not leave their man on defense and stay on the 3 point shooters, because Xavier has a few players who can make 3’s like they are layups. If they don’t do those two things in addition to rebounding, they’ll get chewed up.

According to scouts, Chris Wright would be a low first early second round pick. It would be nice for Flyers fans if he were draft in the latter part of the first round, going to a team that has had recent success. A team like Cleveland or Boston would suit his game well. He projects to be a 6 man type of player, but that would be a year or two out. His decision of the Draft will come when he gets better informantion on his exact draft status. Good Luck Flyers…. Beat X.

From what I’ve been hearing, this will most likely be Chris Wright’s last season at UD.

I can’t understand how CW can be a 1st or 2nd round NBA pick when he isn’t even among the top 10 players in the A-10 at this point. I doubt he’s in the top 50 players in the U.S.A. Not to say that he won’t someday be, and I hope that he is, but he’s not going to be by the end of this year. Not a good ball handler, can’t score from more than 5 feet from the basket, less than average on defense, and fouls too much. He needs more seasoning, If I can see that, anybody can.

From what I’ve been hearing, Christopher talks to himself a lot. Perhaps that’s where he gets his info.

The only scouts that Jim@Sportzinc hears from are those who scout middle-school girls basketball in Warren County, Ohio. I think Chris might be one of them.

The NBA draft is often dictated by potential, and scouts from 8 teams have told me he has huge upside. His game needs to improve, but right now, when he declares, he would be a player taken between 22 and 38. It really depends on needs and scouts love the fact that he is really athletic. Great NBA players were only average shooters coming out of college. Michael Jeffrey Jordan being one. He is not that good, but has similar work ethic qualities, good head, willing to learn, and need to practice, practice, practice. NBA teams love athletic ability, and Lou Herksman, and NBA Development Scout (he represents no specific team) and Frank Izzerman ( 24 years with various NBA teams) both feel he will be drafted THIS year, if he declares. They both feel a transfer to a bigger school in a better conference would be best. Sources tell me that he is considering the NBA or a transfer. Good Luck against Xavier on WED, I will be there and so will about 6 other scouts/industry professionals. Jim@SportzInc, Chicago.

Ha, Red Scare? That is too funny. How about “Raider Scared”? That is much more appropriate. No one takes UD seriously because they are afraid to play WSU. Why do you think UD is the only team with 3 wins that is not in the top 25? RAIDER SCARED!!!

Jim - nobody believes for a second you are a scout or “industry professional”….this is obvious because you dont understand what you are talking about, and if you were in fact what you claim you would not be spending your time posting on a Dayton Daily News message board. I feel sorry for you. It is pathetic to make things up on a message board, it is exponentially more pathetic to do so under a fictional alter-ego. You must truly be a social retard if you think anyone actually is going to believe the lines of crap you feed on these boards. Now I believe Wright has the athletic ability to (someday) make a legitimate NBA prospect. However, as this season has clearly shown, he needs to work on several areas of his game, including ball control, finishing, body control heading to the hoop, his mid-range game, passing, and decision-making. He would be dumb to transfer and lose a year of eligibility. He really needs 2 more years to focus on these areas of his play. I would encourage you to discuss facts without hiding behind a clearly fictional identity. And XavierDave, I believe you meant to say that UD has 3 losses, not 3 wins. :)

I cover scouting in the Mid-West, and part of my duty is to get opinions on players by fans at each school. UD fans certainly are passionate, and when I get to town tomorrow to scout the game I will be taking a tour of the campus and basketball facilities. I have heard that the arena is first rate. On matters regarding players, I give my opinion after talking with scouts from the NBA - I really just scout teams as a whole but once in a while comes along the likes of Chris Wright - a very special player. NBA scouts are excited to see him develop, and I am excited to see my second UD game of the year - the first being against Marquette. Good Tomorrow Flyer Fans!

Wright will not transer. Besides the fact that sitting out a year is a terrible idea, the good BCS schools that once recruited him, Mich St. , Texas, etc won’t want him now. They don’t want a waste a scholarship on a player to sit out a year and then play one year, just to go to the NBA. At best, he could go to a lower teir team in a BCS conference, but that does little to help his national exposure.Even though he won’t be a back to the basket player in the pros, he needs to develop a couple post moves and they need to run plays for him on the low post. That is the reason for his recent struggles and turnovers. He will always make a couple spectacular plays because of his athletism, but people are figuring out how to guard him.

jimmie, I am about as big of a UD fan as exists on the planet. Look, when Chris Wright transfers, then I will be vindicated. You should be happy that I’m giving you advanced warning of what is about to happen after the season. Geesh, some people can’t deal with reality.

Are you people serious?? Chris Wright to the NBA?? He is NO WHERE NEAR READY, as of today he would struggle playing in Europe. This is his FIRST FULL A 10 season, it’s a grind and he will find that out. He is a fine player and might make the NBA someday, but you Flyer Fans drink the Kool Aid too often. Though since your program hasn’t put a playerin the NBA since the early 90’s I guess Id want him to go also.
