Dayton rallies for win at GW
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Dayton rallied from a six-point deficit in the final 2:14 to pull out a 63-61 victory over George Washington here Thursday.
Marcus Johnson made three free throws in the final 21.9 seconds — two of the attempts coming after a technical foul on GW for having too many men on the floor — and UD survived two Colonial shots in the final seconds to triumph.
UD is 17-2, 3-1 Atlantic 10. GW is 6-10, 0-4.

Not one of our better games but we’ll take it.

For anyone who wonders why we don’t play Wright State, just look at that game against GW. We would get clobbered by WSU at the Nutter Center. Please do not play WSU, I don’t think I could take getting drilled by them.

Not great, but a win on the road is a win on the road, something Dayton has not always done much of over the years. If Dayton, no matter how “ugly” can beat the teams it should, then they can win 24 games this year.

Doug have you ever been to a Wright State game? If Dayton did play them is would be 80 percent dayton fans. The Nutt is always 3/4 empty.

Why not wsu? If we were going to do a home and away series with a Horizon team it would have to be Butler. Similar in reputation to George Mason or Creighton. Ugly win, but 17-2 isn’t bad. Learn from it and move on.

Any road win in conference is a good win, ugly or not. Also, I realize I’m not in Dayton anymore, but please give up the notion that UD playing Wright St is a good idea on any level. UD should look to play OSU or Cinci or ‘Ville as a regional “rival” game. Butler is the only Horizon team you think about playing…

How about the Flyers offer Wright State a 2 for 1, with the Flyers receiving 20% of ticket revenue for their one game at the Nutter Center?

Being from Dayton but an XU grad I think of UD as a rival but still like them to do well- except for when they play XU, but eeking wins out against Fordaham and the power house known as GW?? Sheesh, things look bleek.

Jeremy’s right. We should be blowing out teams like GW just like X did against the Bonas the other night. Instead we need to draw a break (technical foul) to win. People better open their eyes; there is something wrong here.

Wow Jim, hope you are being sarcastic with that 17-2 comment. Aside from Marquette, your schedule is awful. Keep drinking the kool aid like most of the “Flyer faithful”

is there WSU faithful? yeah about 1000. they just can not accept the fact they will always be a second tier team in this town. Question has WSU EVER been in the top twenty since they went D1 or even top 50? answer NO…when they get there call us

Funny how the WSU trolls are so obsessed with UD they try turning every Flyer comment thread into about WSU. 17-2, 49 RPI compared to 11-8, and 115 RPI is all that counts. The Flyers are in hunt for an at-large while WSU has to win their tourney. If that equates to drinking “kool-aide,” then fill me up for another.

Jim, Im just saying your team is over rated and year after year dissapoints. Yet the flyer fans don’t see it. And I Have no ties with WSU.

As it’s been said, a win is a win. Winning all these close games will only help us come tourney time. Granted we should have beaten these teams handily, but being in close games and winning (finally) will be HUGE for our confidence. Being a UD fan, I will take any conf. road win. We have 3 home games in a row, so hopefully we stay focused and get to 20-2…but it can only be done one game at a time.

As a huge flyer fan. I love the 17-2 record. But it would be nice to have someone on this team hit a jump shot on a regular basis. This is the pporest shooting flyer team I have ever seen. Also, what other team in the country would be 17-2 and not even in the top25?

Jeremy, some teams win ugly, and this team is one of them. Good teams find ways to pull out close wins. Any road win is a good win and UD is 2-1 on the road in the A10 so far. Their defense will keep them in most games, which means a lot of close games. Winning by 30 or by 2 both end up meaning the same in the end. Just because they don’t blow teams away does not equate to being overrated. If being 17-2 is “overrated” in your eyes, then so be it. Being in the hunt for an at-large is what it’s all about and UD is right there.

All I know is that there are 285 teams in NCAA DI that wish they were in our shoes. Man, I love being “overrated.”

As many have posted - a win is a win! And I’d rather win a close conferecne game that no one saw; than be humilated on national TV like xavier was last month - ouch!!!

At least XU can get teams like Duke to play them, and at least they have games that are televised. Once UD gets an actual non confrence schedule, and has games televised regularly, then UD fans can knock XU. WHIO’s telecasts are a joke. You have to be kidding me

UD played Duke at Duke a few years back smart guy. Looks like XU was years behind the legacy of Dayton in terms of that. By the way, Coach K said that the Dayton team was one of the best non-conference teams they ever had play them at home - and it was a close game until the end. Also, how many NIT championships or NCAA final four or championship games has XU gotten to or won?

PS.. I seem to remember a certain current #1 team that came to UD last year and got their *ss handed to them. Teams won’t play UD because they know UD will play them tough, and if they get knocked off, their rankings will suffer. They don’t schedule UD out of fear!

Hey Stone, it’s what have you done for me lately. All you UD guys do is live in the past. All I hear is we were a final four team, we beat Pitt, we beat Louisville. Give me a break. Let’s get it done now, the past just doesn’t count bud.

UD playing Wright State is a great idea now days. Wright State has turned it’s program around you have to give them some credit. Don’t forget they aren’t as well developed as UD’s team and fan base, and that 70% of the Students are older or commute to school so they aren’t around for games. If Wright State played Dayton at home, it would benefit both schools in turms of revenue and fan base, and something to talk about. Wright State is a top contender in the Horizon League and have been for the past four years, and the Horizon League is only growing bigger with talent.

The attendance figures were not very kind for us last night. GW only had 2517 fans last night to see us play them. Wright State had 4487 for their game against Loyola. Does WSU always get that kind of attendance? I thought they did not draw that well.

Ken, Wright State outdraws 2/3rds of the A10 teams. They average over 5k per game.
