Officers chase down two fleeing from car
A speeding car, a short foot chase and a loaded .45-caliber handgun Tuesday sent two young men to jail.
It started when officers spotted a silver Chrysler 300 speeding down an alley behind the Big E Bar on North Main Street around 5 p.m. Officers tried to keep up with the speeding car as it ran several stop signs before it pulled over. Both doors opened. The driver went one way, the passenger the other.
Officers said the 19-year-old driver, Anthony Watson Jr., was apprehended when he was Tased and brought to the ground by one officer. Only one of the Taser’s two probes hit the Watson — enough to slow him down. The 26-year-old passenger, Angelo Lee Jacko, also was Tased as he attempt to jump a fence.
Police found a number of prescription pills and marijuana in the Watson’s pocket. Checking computer records, the officers found Jacko was wanted for questioning in a Sept. 19 rape. He was taken to the Public Safety Building for interviews with detectives.
Another officer, inventorying the Chrysler prior to towing, found a loaded Glock semiautomatic in the glove compartment. A check of the serial number found the Glock was stolen in 2003. Watson claimed no knowledge of the weapon. Jacko said he may have touched the weapon when he found it in the glove compartment. Watson said the Chrysler belong to his girlfriend, and he and his friend were just driving around.
Both were booked into the Montgomery County Jail. Both are facing numerous misdemeanor and felony charges when they make their initial court appearances.
