Father opens front door, meets fist
The 46-year-old victim was not the most cooperative of witnesses.
When officers arrived early Wednesday morning, the man was sitting on the front porch of his residence in the 300 block of Xenia Avenue, holding the right side of his face and occasionally spitting blood. His only response when officers asked “What happened?” was “Get me a medic,” according to the police report.
Officers noted in the report the victim had “a strong smell of alcoholic beverage.”
Once medic arrived, the victim continued his “extremely uncooperative” behavior. First he told the medics he didn’t want to go to the hospital. Then he changed his mind. Once in the ambulance, he refused to answer any of the medics’ questions. His only statement was to ask if his jaw was broken.
Medics told him the only way to tell for sure was to get him to the hospital for an X-ray.
To which he responded “if they’re not going to tell him if his jaw is broken, he’s not going to answer their questions,” according to the police report.
But back to the crime.
The victim’s 22-year-old son said he was asleep on the couch when he heard a knock on the door. He looked out a window and saw his former best friend at the door. The former best friend was former because the son and the former best friend had been arguing for the past several days over a girl, the son told police.
The son then went into the bedroom, woke his father and told him there was someone at the door. The father went to the door, opened it and received a punch to the face from the former best friend, the son said. The former best friend then fled.
Officers then went to Miami Valley Hospital to see if the father/victim was ready to tell his version of events. The father/victim repeated what his son had told officers, but declined to answer any other questions.
Police put out a pickup alert for the suspect.
No word on whether the father/victim’s jaw was indeed broken.
