Sometimes lying is just plain futile
Lying to the cops is never a good idea.
Lying to cops with a search warrant is just dumb.
Dayton officers served the search warrant Monday evening, July 12, around 7 p.m. in the 1600 block of Russet Avenue. When no one answered the door, detectives broke it down with a ram. A voice from a bathroom led police to 27-year-old Mark Lee, kneeling in front of the commode.
He was quickly cuffed and asked where the marijuana was stashed. “There is no marijuana here,” Lee said, according to the police report. To quote the report further: “As soon as Lee stated there would be no marijuana in the house, Detective Bell opened the door to the microwave in the kitchen, and he located a gallon freezer bag that was full of marijuana.”
Oops.
Lee then told police he didn’t know the pot was there. That’s when another detective, as if on cue, uncovered two more gallon bags of weed in a bedroom.
Talk about bad timing.
“That’s it,” Lee said when asked if there was more dope in the house, according to the report. Which was followed by the discovery of yet another gallon bag of weed.
In all, police found 3 1/3 pounds of marijuana, confiscated $706 from Lee’s pocket, found two digital scales, plus a hand-written list of money owed from 11 people, ranging in amounts from $20 to $2,200.
At that point, police let Lee know they had been making undercover buys from him.
When asked why he was selling dope when he had a full-time job, Lee said he was only making $10 an hour and needed more to pay child support and get his kids back.
He was taken to the county lockup and has initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon, where he could face potential felony charges for drug trafficking and possession.
