Car chase ends with girlfriend chasing off robber
A 27-year-old man was parked in the Five Oaks neighborhood, arguing with his girlfriend in the early morning darkness of Wednesday, April 28, when a silver Impala pulled up behind them.
The man told police he got out of the car as did the passenger of the Impala. The Impala’s passenger had a gun in his hand and demanded the 27-year-old hand over all his “weed.” The man said he didn’t smoke weed, jumped back into his car and took off with the Impala in pursuit.
The man slowed down when he approached Salem Avenue, and the Impala slammed into his rear, pushing his car across Salem. The man bailed from his car — leaving his girlfriend behind — and fled down an alley and across a vacant field.
Witnesses told police they saw a man run across the field pursued by a silver car, which knocked him to the ground.
The victim said the Impala’s passenger got out of the car, shoved a gun in his face and demanded his money. The victim said the passenger took $900. Just then, the cavalry arrived in the form of his girlfriend driving his car.
According to the victim and witnesses, the victim’s car rammed the Impala. Both cars then sped off, and the victim went to a nearby house for help.
The victim was taken to Grandview Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police then scoured the area for the Impala and the victim’s car.
Responding to another call, police found the victim’s car and the Impala several blocks away. The girlfriend had relentlessly pursued the Chevy. The Impala took off down an alley, through a yard and over a small retaining wall before disappearing.
Some six hours later, an Impala matching the description was found in an alley several miles away. The car had been reported stolen seven days prior from Harrison Twp. The car also had a stolen license plate.
Police are continuing their investigation.
