Man expected jail immunity on his birthday, officers say

One thing not to expect on your birthday is a “get out of jail free” card.

After Dayton police nabbed a 31-year-old local man with a history of fleeing from police and driving without a license, he told police they “should not arrest him since it was his birthday, and he only wanted to make it home,” according to the police report.

Officers said they spotted Jules Boggs around 3 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, westbound on Germantown, clocked at 63 mph. When police pulled him over on Gettysburg and ID’d him, Boggs took off. Rather than pursue, officers headed for Boggs’ house, figuring if the past was the predictor of the future, that’s where he was heading.

According to court and police records, Boggs has a history of resisting arrest and fleeing from traffic stops as far back as 2004.

Sure enough, Boggs pulled up in front of his residence, and police pulled up right behind him.

When ordered out of the vehicle, Boggs appeared oblivious to police, according to the report. Once police turned off the vehicle and got him out of the driver’s seat, Boggs began resisting. During the tussle, Boggs slammed into the front of the police car, cracking its bumper and knock out a large piece of the grill.

Once handcuffed and in the back of the police car, Boggs told police all he wanted to do was get home. Instead, he was taken to the county lockup where he was booked in on felony vandalism and misdemeanor obstruction, resisting arrest and failure to comply.
