UD student arrested after breaking into, passing out in church

Dayton police charged a 20-year-old University of Dayton student with misdemeanor criminal damaging and underage consumption after finding him passed out inside the South Park United Methodist Church early Saturday morning, Jan. 30.

Police were called to the church, at 140 Stonemill Road, just after 3 a.m. Saturday when a burglar alarm was tripped, according to a police report.

Officers found that panels of glass on the front door had been broken, the reports stated. When police entered the church they smelled cigarette smoke and found the student sleeping in the foyer, the report stated. He appeared to have soiled himself and didn’t immediately know where he was, the report stated. He told officers he thought he was in his dorm room at Marianist Hall.

He was issued a summons to appear in court and was returned by officers to his dorm room. A keyholder for the church was called and secured the building.
